I read about Rue McClanahan's death yesterday and I just wanted to give a little dedication to her and the others that passed before her. The Golden Girls is one of my favorite television series even though I never saw it when it was originally on the air. This show about four middle aged women living life in a fast past society changed the face of television and made millions laugh out loud every week. The show still gathers fans of all ages thanks to it's reruns on various stations which is how I discovered it. Rue's character Blanche was one in a million. Far from the stereotype of average fifty year olds, Blanche knew what she wanted and would do almost anything to get it. The situations she would get herself into and how she handled them quickly made her one of the most loved characters on television.
It's hard to believe that there is only one Golden Girl still alive. I can't imagine the pain Betty White must be feeling. From what I gathered all of the women were great friends and to lose all of them in such short amount of time must be devastating. My heart goes out to Betty White and Rue's family. Let's not forget the other to Golden Girls that moved on before Rue. Estelle and Bea were two amazing actresses and their characters made the show what it was. So Estelle, Bea, and Rue thank you for all the laughs and the memories. You will be missed.
