drive through liquor windows were the norm in New Mexico until some idiot in the statehouse realised that if you're buying liquor while in you vehicle, it might lead to drinking and driving. So umm..yeah it was maybe 10 years ago (god i'm old) that they actually went away.
Not to be outdone, the folks at Archie's (the local beer store) immediately moved their drive through cash register about 4 feet into the store from the door, so the peopel driving had to get out of their car (and walk 4 feet) to get their beer.
