It's been twenty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall fell. Without nuclear war happening first. This was one of my happy "where were you when" moments, the other being happily drunk in my living room as Barack Obama getting elected.

I was born in 1975, so I was aware of goings on in the tail end of the Cold War, namely the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the downing of
Korean Air Lines Flight 007, and while I didn't watch "The Day After", it was definitely on people's minds at the time. Living right outside of DC, my attitude towards the possibility of WWIII was more like that of this guy below...

I guess what was most surprising was the fact that the Iron Curtain fell apart with a *pfft*. I have been watching news clips on Youtube, and remembering how relieved and optimistic folks were at the time; especially when you compare it with the free-floating panic and dread of the past few years.
