DW 6x02, Day of the Moon review

Well, all in all, I think it's a good beggining. It's as dramatic as can be and I'm sure it'll be interesting to see how they wrk this one out (it seems impossible to find a way out! Not without violating some of the established Rules of Time-travelling).

I liked the general look of it, the pace, the photography and the music. It was filled with shocking scenes. Last week I said they'd better not kill Rory again, but they managed to pull it off. Killing off all the companions! That was good, even though I don't think anyone was fooled. This is what I mean when I say this is not a show for kids anymore. If I was seven, I would've been distraught.

On the other hand, I think I'm going to need to watch it again, because I didn't understand why they had to pretend to kill all the companions. They were all working for Nixon anyway! What was that about?

There were many more good dramatic moments, and of course, it's the sort of episode that opens more questions than it closes. But what I found interesting, is how many similarities there are with Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. When Amy is taken and her nanoimplant keeps going, it's so reminiscent of Miss Evangelista's death. And of course, the evil astronauts an the monsters with whom it's difficult to communicate.

I did thought that it was all solved too easily. Thousands of years of invasion, and it's all over in a few seconds? I suppose I should reserve judgement for now- we know this isn't a stand-alone- but I think it was a bit weak. They tried to make it too epic, and fell short.

River Song is a Doctor of Theology- that was too good. The fact that I know a few doctors of Theology makes it funnier than I'm sure it is. But it distracted me from my uncomfortability over all the happy-shooting.

Can I just say how good Matt looks with a beard? He reminds me of the Communist Party members and other extreme leftists from university =D I'm half expecting him to go on about the People and the evils of the cruel capitalist world with a spiff in his mouth and colombian cumbia playing in the background. This image amuses me more than it should.
