I had vague plans of going to Bristol today, but it was raining when I woke up and the weather report predicted thunderstorms. I think this is the universe's way of telling me I don't really need to spend money on going to a renaissance festival right now, not if I'm going to make another drive to MN in August and the 20 year-old fillings in my front teeth look like they're going to need a more permanent solution soon - and no longer just for aesthetic reasons.
Instead, I worked on a fabric-covered and embellished picture frame I'm making to hold a card with important contact information that will go over the phone in the kitchen. Living alone as I do, I think it's important that people who might be in my apartment in emergency situations have this information at their disposal since there's no one else around to provide it. I watched some library movies as I worked, beginning with The Mosquito Coast. I checked it out because it had been filmed in Belize (particularly, I've been told, in the town of Gracie Rock, where I'd done some excavation) and I thought it would be fun to see if I recognized anything. I gave up less than half way through; the main character was just too annoying. Then I switched to Lost Horizon, which I've seen before, and kind of feels like an old Doctor Who episode, complete with the thing where parts of it are missing and had to be filled in with audio and still photos.
The art fair in South Shore Park is tomorrow. For some reason, I thought I would be out of town for it this year, but that was just a temporary loss of my ability to read a calendar. No renaissance festival, but at least there will be Odd Things in Booths - this time within walking distance!
