This has been a very disorganized weekend.
It started out okay. I had vague plans of going to the Arab World Festival on Saturday, only to find out Friday night that it is actually next weekend. Between that and the fact that I wasn't scheduled to go back into the field on Monday (and therefore in less of a rush to get various things done), my weekend was suddenly and deliciously free.
Saturday started out wonderfully lazy. I spent a peaceful morning surfing the net from the kitchen over pancakes, and then went to the farmers' market. In the afternoon, it was the library and the fabric store and entertaining thoughts of finally going to see Harry Potter.
Then I found out in the early evening I would have to go away for another week, and that started a rush of shockingly ineffectual shenanigans trying reverse course and get ready to go back into the field again. I was able to get surprisingly little done along these lines, partly because it was so late in the day, but partly because I had let myself become completely disorganized.
Today, trying to make up for it, I got up at a decent hour, mailed the car payment, drove up to Cabela's to pick up my new boots and replace a water bottle that no longer closes tightly, made a Target run, weeded the garden, did laundry, and made half a dozen phone calls. I still have some packing and organizing of the truck to do, but the errand-running is out of the way and I have NEW BOOTS AND THEY ARE AWESOME.*
Progress on the Celtic mola bodice! While in the field last week, I did the reverse-applique work on the large motif on the center back and started on the knot applique. I did a little more of that while at the laundromat today:
The front pieces are cut out and the bust dart sewn on each side. I've got to copy the design for the front and tab motifs before I go. I also picked up boning, grommets, and something for the underlining layer on Saturday - getting interrupted in the process by the call that sent my weekend off in another direction.
Geranium blooms again! And there is a second flower bud on its way. I had pruned the plant a while back and re-planted the trimmed-off stalk in the same pot - after letting it develop roots in a vase for a couple of weeks - so I'd have a bushier geranium instead of a tall, spindly one. I was worried it wouldn't work, but the leaves are looking fine, the current bloom is on the re-planted portion, and the bloom-to-be is on the original plant.
While I was at the laundromat, I had a quarter that the machine just wouldn't accept. After numerous failed attempts, I finally took a look at it and it turned out not to be a quarter at all, but a Franc. They don't even use those anymore, how did one turn up in my quarter stash?
Also, this was on the front steps yesterday:
I think this is the largest beetle I have ever seen!
And a shot of the garden, just because:
*All kinds of hardships and inconveniences can be survived when one has awesome boots!
