Yes, I'm home on a Friday night, what do you have to say about that? Huh? :o)
Hung out with a friend and saw Syriana at the theater this evening. Very good movie. I would highly recommend it. It's a very serious political film that I found very enlightening. I liked watching how each of the storylines eventually came together at the end. Matt Damon was wonderful and enjoyed watching his scenes.
I also received a very surprising call today from my old friend Jaime. The prodigal friend has returned. We had a good, long talk and we're planning on hanging out again after she gets back from New Mexico. Should be fun. There will be food involved, maybe some alcohol, and probably a movie. Debating between whether or not we should see Harry Potter (which she hasn't seen but I've seen three times but wouldn't mind going again) or Rent. I'm kinda leaning towards Rent. It's playing in the two dollar theater and if we go when no one's there we can get up in the aisles and sing to La Vie Boheme. She's already seen the movie but I haven't. I do have the soundtrack (which I've been listening to practically everyday) and will probably see with Karma before I see it with her but oh well. Can't see a good movie too many times, right?
Oh, and to all two of you reading my journal, I shall finally reveal my kick-ass present to myself. I'm so excited. :o)
pucca_lover , you are indeed correct. You deserve a cookie. I finally bought a car. Specifically, a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS. Yah!
Ever since I decided to not go through with the move to Chicago (at least for now), I decided that I was going to buy a car in December or January. Well a few weeks ago, I came across a listing for a Jetta. I've been wanting a Jetta for ages but couldn't really afford one since they're so expensive. I'm also pretty picky...I wanted an automatic and did not want a white or red car. I saw this Jetta online and it looked like a really good deal. It's black, an automatic, low miles, and selling well below the blue book value for the car. I, of course, thought, that it was too good to be true. But I ran the CarFax report and everything still came out kosher. I had my dad check out the car while I was at work and he gave it his approval. Said that it looked much better than the other Jettas we had been looking into. So a few days later, we went back together to test drive it (well he drove it, I just played around with the buttons). I decided that I needed to act fast so I put a partial down on in and the dealer has been holding it in the lot for me since. It's a good thing too that I acted fast because someone apparently came in right after to me look at the car. Woohoo.
So I've spent the week getting everything together. I barely got my loan at the credit union on Tuesday. It was touch and go there. I knew I had an awesome credit score which definitely helped (got me a super super super low rate for my 60 month loan -- 5.25%) but they weren't sure if they could give me a loan because my high debt-to-income ratio. Remember, my job's pay is pretty crappy and I have a student loan and medical loan to contend with. But several factors (my very recent performance raise, company cost of living raise in 2006, and RMH income, no rent) definitely helped push it through. But the kicker: remember how I said I was trying to pay off my loans early by doubling up on the payments? Well apparently by doing so, on my credit report, it only shows that I have to pay the monthly interest on the principal rather than the monthly payments I was quoted to pay when I left Pepperdine. So really, it would have been nearly impossible for me to buy a car last year because the positive factors that I listed above that really didn't come into effect until this year.
I took a personal holiday today. My dad picked me up at the RMH this morning after my shift ended and we got my car insurance, paid for my car, came home, had my brother take us back to the dealer, picked up the car, got it registered, and brought it home. My dad put the back plates on and I now have a lovely Pepperdine Alumni framing my plates.
So my dad just needs to teach me how to drive again and I'll be good to go. :o)
And here are some pics of my car. These are the dealer pics from the website but here's my baby.
And the kicker! It has a moon roof! My dad asked me why I needed a moon roof and I replied that I didn't need a moon roof...I just can't help it if it came with one. :o)
Now the important part: what do I name him?
(My friends and I have decide it's a he :o) )
Well I must go to bed. Have an early volunteer shift at the RMH tomorrow and then I'm off to do some last minute Christmas shopping with my mom. Wish me luck!
