Taking a break

I've decided to take a break from my never ending job search to check out some graduate programs and apartments in the Chicago area. When I first thought of moving to Chicago last year, I didn't want to have a roommate. I wanted to do this completely alone. But I've now come to the realization that the good paying jobs that I want are hard to come by and I will likely have to start out small for a long while before I can even think about getting my own apartment. So I'm super excited about the possiblity of roomming with Emily when I move there. We're still trying to convince Cara to move out with us but she's not budging. (Although Emily predicts that after Cara sees how much fun we're having roomming together, she'll want in on the fun too). We may even have Em and Cara's friend Kathleen move in with us if Cara can't. I met Kathleen last month when we all went to the book release party. She's super sweet and a total kick.

I also had this crazy notion in my head that I wanted to live downtown. This is also unlikely. Andersonville is still a possiblity but it's looking like we're going to aim for the Oak Park area. No prob. Just along as the apartment is near public transportation, I'm good.

So here's the game plan, Emily's mom said that when I find a job and move out there, I could stay at their house in one of the spare rooms since Charlie and John are in school out of state this year. I think Em said John offered up his room. So if I move there within the next few months, I'll probably be staying at their house for a while until I get some of the debt to move there paid off and Em pays off her credit card bills. After that, we'll move out and get an apartment. This will definitely be done by next spring because that's when John graduates from college and will be moving home and Emily is bound and determined to be out of the house before he moves back. And if I'm staying in his room, it's probably a good idea if I get my crap out of there too. ;o)

As for schools, it would be awesome if I could go to Northwestern or the University of Chicago...they have two of the best part time MBA programs in the nation. But that's the thing, they have two of the best programs in the nation. They are 2 and 3 if you look at US News and World Report. University of Illinois at Chicago is pretty good. It's in the top 25 and even has a joint MS Accounting program that the other two don't have. And it's accounting program is in the top 30 in the nation and the highest rank accounting program in the Chicago area.

Choices choices choices.

Ok, back to the job search. I shouldn't be thinking about apartments and schools until I find a dang job. Keep your fingers crossed for me! :o)
