So far today has been one of those lazy days in which I do absolutely nothing. And I love it. I got to sleep in, watch Napoleon Dynamite, read a bit of Phantom of the Opera, and now I'm seriously considering a nap. Wonderful.
The past few months have been a bit stressful at work but now that 1099's are done and over with and I'm pretty much caught up with everything, things are starting to feel much better. Although, now that the work has slowed down a bit, I find that my mind tends to wander quite a bit more and I tend to day dream about what I'm going to do in the next few months. I need to stop that or I'm seriously going to fall behind again.
One of the things I like about my company is incentive bonuses. And thankful, since we had a good fiscal year, our bonuses hit in the next paycheck and it couldn't have come at better time. My credit card bill is getting out of hand (and I just bought two new cd's yesterday!) and I have a trip to Chicago to contend with. Yeah! I'm visiting friends in Chicago from March 12-20. I'm spending the 12-16 with Emily and Cara (the same people I went to NYC with) and we're going to hit the town and Oak Wood...the suburb they live in just outside of Chicago. Then from the 16-20 I'm spending with my old roommate Laurie. She lives right in the middle of the city so I plan on doing quite a bit of shopping (and finally getting those matching Tiffany earings to my necklace) and eating. Also, my trip coincides with St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's Day in Chicago. Nuf said.
The purpose of this trip (well the purpose after the main one of visiting my friends) is to get a feel of the area. I've never visited Chicago for and I've been saying for months that I want to move there. I figure it's probably a good idea to scope the area and see if it's really a place I want to live. After all it is a pretty big decision. Then again, I never visited California or Pepperdine for that matter and I ended up living there for 4 years. But I have no regrets about that decision. :o)
If I like the area, I will seriously start looking for jobs there at the end of March. There is a company I really want to work for so I'm probably going to submit my resume to them even though the job I want isn't available. I don't really want to say what company it is because I don't want to jinx myself. (Funny, I'm not really that superstitious.) I saw this position last August and I was so tempted to apply for it but held back because of my surgery in November. I think I'm just going to go for it and see what happens.
Although, there is a guy in my company that just retired Friday. He was a finanical analyst (something that I would like to do) and they're probably going to post a job opening soon. And I'm torn. While I love working for my company and I would love this job, I don't know if I should apply. If I do, that means I have to stay here in Boise. And while the pay would be much better than my current job, budgeting for a new car and apartment (because I don't want to live with my parents anymore) would be difficult because of my student and medical loans. And while the cost of living is higher in Chicago, the jobs also pay more and I wouldn't have to worry about a car and insurance on said car because of Chicago's mass transit system. Decision decision decisions.
On to other news. I finally got to meet my nephew a few weeks ago. He is so cute. Tons of energy too. All he did was eat and run around. But he's a good kid. Didn't get into any trouble at all. We finally convinced him to sit down (after 4 hours) so we can get a picture of him and my other niece. We managed to get two pictures before the baby got fussy and he got bored. So cute.
Last week I went shopping for material for my bridesmaid dress for my best friend's wedding. It's green. Bright green. Grass green. I like green but I'm not so sure. Oh well. It's her wedding. I'm sure it'll be ok. She's having each of her brides maids wear different colors and different styles of dresses. So far, three of us have our fabrics and (blue, green, and dark pink (raspberry)) and they have this marble like pattern to it. So it's likely that the next dress (which is purple) will have this marble like swirl to it. Originally I was going to wear red (which is my prefered color) but it wouldn't have gone well with the pink...too much of the red spectrum in the wedding party isn't good. So I went with the bright green. Believe me, the other greens weren't that great. But this green is pretty but a bit too bright for my tastes. I guess we'll just see. It is a summer, outdoor wedding after all. And my dress is going to be a one shoulder dress which should be fun.
For my other friend's wedding in which I'm a bridesmaid (or a member of the coallition of the willing as she puts it), she's having us all wear black and we can wear whatever we want. I already have a black dress from my fall formal my senior year but it's a bit big...I've lost quite a few pounds post surgery. So I'm currently looking for a new one. I'll probably look for one while I'm in Chicago. If I can't find a new dress, I might just have to go somewhere and have this dress taken in a bit. Or gain weight. The latter doesn't sound too appealing. I guess I could wear it as is...I'm sure the looseness of the dress is only noticable to me but I like an excuse to buy new, pretty things. Oh, and the great thing about this wedding? I'm going to be the witness. Woohoo! They will forever have my name on their marriage license. *insert evil cackle*
Ok, it's time for me to go. I promised myself I wouldn't spend too much time on the net today. And did you notice, my computer is working! I had to buy a new hard drive (which wasn't that bad) and my brother installed it and so far, it's been working great. Well it better. The return date already passed. Oh well. It has a smaller memory than my old hard drive but that's ok. I barely used half of the memory on my old one. Of course, I've also been converting all my cd's into MP3's which I never done before and I've already used half the memory of my new hard drive. And Apple is making it hard and harder to resist buying one of their iPods. I want a 6gb mini in blue. :o) Sigh.
