First of all, I heard the most fantabulous news today…Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be out July 16th…woohoo! Let the good times begin! I definitely needed that bit of good news after the wretched weekend I had.
Can I just say I hate my laptop? Correction: I hate Windows.
For about a week, my computer kept crashing on me left and right and it was getting progressively worse. It would take forever to boot and forever to sign on the internet and forever to go anywhere on the net. You get the picture. I was at my wits end. And each day that passed, it would crash more and more and got to a point on Friday where I would be on it for less than 10 minutes before it gave me a blue screen with an error message. I was annoyed…extremely annoyed.
On Thursday, I had planned to back up my files over the weekend but after Friday’s debacle, I decided to go ahead and download everything in My Documents. That nearly took up the entire CD which is 700 MB. It was getting way late so I didn’t attempt to burn my MP3’s…that was over 700 MB and I needed to do a bit of house cleaning in that folder to get it down to 1 CD…plus I wanted to buy a rewritable CD in case something happened.
So Saturday I got on my computer to delete some MP3’s. Crash. Go back on, delete some more, crash. Finally get it down to 700 MB’s and start burning one of my regular CD…crash. Well I threw that away and open my new rewritable CD’s. Try it again. Crash. Try it again. Crash. (Now I have to add that it crashed several more times before I attempted all this…I had to go on my computer before I left to buy the CD at the store and it crashed a few times). Well the last crash finally did. I tried to boot up my computer but Windows wouldn’t load. Something about a corrupt file that needed to be fixed. So I spent a half and hour searching for my stupid Windows CD. After a few attempts, I finally figured out how to get to the start up screen. Ok. All is good. I select repair and then asks for an administrator password. No problem. Password invalid. Tried it again. Password invalid. Tried it again. Password invalid AND automatically reboots. I try this about 10 times using every password I’ve ever used in my entire life EVEN THOUGH there’s only one password that I’ve used on that computer since I first got it. Finally I decided to re-install Windows…it was going to reformat the drive but at that point, I figured I lost my music files anyway. So I try to re-install Windows…Damn thing froze during the reformatting of my drive. So I tried to reboot. All I got was the HP screen, darkness, the HP screen, darkness, the HP screen…you get the picture. Windows was gone. So I decided to bite the bullet and do a complete system recovery. Now my computer is up and running and I’m still trying download drivers to get my hardware to work.
I have no clue what happened to my computer. I don’t think it was a virus. The only thing I download are Window’s Security Updates and Norton Live Updates…I even got the latest Norton software. I only go to sites that I trust and regularly scan my computer for viruses and spyware.
Damn. Hundreds of MP3’s lost…anyone want to take pity on a poor soul on Christmas and send me a CD of MP3’s?
