Good News and Bad News

Dec 19, 2010 09:33

First, the bad news. My managers at work are a bunch of immature brats that make the toddlers at the daycare where I worked in college look like responsible adults. I know I said that Jerry, the new GM, is better than Patrick, but I might need to reevaluate that because of what happened tonight. See, apparently, Teri and Jerry (seriously, they sound like a comedy team) were fighting tonight, no idea why, and they kept stomping by and refusing to speak to each other. I was stocking home decor, and Jerry told me when I was finished to start doing the backstock. It took longer than I thought to finish it, and in the meantime Elaine, another worker, did all the home decor backstock. Well when I finished my stocking, Teri told me to go stock the pet department since it wasn't finished yet and we had an hour until we needed to leave, so I went and stocked pets thinking they'd just changed their minds (which they do 2398324893248934 times a night anyway). At 6 AM, Jerry comes stomping up to me and says "What are you doing?" I tell him we're almost finished with pets and he cuts me off and says "I thought you were going to do home decor backstock?" He sounds pissed, so I tell him I'm sorry, when Teri told me to do pets I thought they'd changed their minds, and I would stop and do home decor backstock. He looked at his watch and snapped "It's too late now anyway!" and he stomped off. If it was too late anyway, then why bust my balls about it? It's not like I was goofing off, I was helping a coworker finish an area that wasn't done yet! How is backstock more important than that? If I hadn't helped, it wouldn't have gotten done and would have had to go back and then his dumb ass would be pissed about that. Jesus fucking Christ. Later on, Teri and Jerry were yelling at each other in the aisle (in front of customers no less) and it was hilarious. Jerry is in his 30s and Teri is old enough to have retired from another company and be collecting a pension, so it's not like they're in their late teens or anything; they're both old enough to know better. What a bunch of bullshit. SERIOUSLY.

The guy at work who decided he hates me and won't speak to me ever again is still not speaking to me and ignoring me if I acknowledge his presence. He's also stomping around and muttering about what a bitch
I am, which makes things extra fun. Nice.

I found out from Dennis (the guy who gives me a ride to and from work) that the guy who was holding the "will work for food or gifts" sign outside Meijer the other day got bags of stuff from some people, so he ended up getting stuff. I'm happy. YAY WE DID A GOOD THING.

I'm making turkey meatloaf right now. I know, I know, ew. But I'm running low on food (and don't have any toilet paper, which is distressing) so all I really had was some frozen ground turkey bought when it was on sale with Meijer's "10 for $10 get the 11th item free," so I had to make something with it. It doesn't smell bad. I like all the stuff I put in it, so I'm hoping it tastes good. It smells good, at least. And if I bake some bread, I can use the leftovers to make sandwiches. I only have one sad packet of yeast left and it's shitty Meijer yeast that usually doesn't rise, but I'll give it a shot.

I got an email this morning from our Senator, Debbie Stabenow (we have two senators, Ms. Stabenow and Carl Levin, but he didn't send me an email this morning, so poo on him). I bug and pester Senator Stabenow all the time about issues that are important to me, and I've emailed her a few times recently asking her to vote to repeat Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and she's always responded that she'd vote to repeal it whenever she got the chance, so I thought it was really cool of her to send me this email:

Dear Lillian,

I am writing to tell you that the Senate has just voted to repeal the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. I am proud to be a cosponsor of this bipartisan legislation, which has already passed the House of Representatives, and now goes to President Obama for his signature.

Many current and former Generals and Admirals have said that the current policy undermines the strength of our military with the loss of talented individuals at a time when our country needs them most. The military has completed an exhaustive study of the policy, and Congress has held significant hearings and debates on this issue. Today's vote ensures that talented men and women will be able to serve their nation with honesty and integrity.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if ever I can be of assistance to you or your family.

Sincerely,

Debbie Stabenow

United States Senator

I just think it was cool of her to respond to my constant pestering emails in the first place, and then to respond like this and let me know that DADT was repealed as I'd said I hoped would happen. I'm geeked (I don't care if it was her secretary sending the email and I don't care if all her constituents got the same email, I'm still geeked, so nyah!)

This might be the only time my "politics" tag is used to report something positive, so enjoy it. :-p

my managers are five, look ma i can cook, that is so gay, politics, food, werk
