Really?

Lets talk about it. This is going to be a long post, so get comfy.

1. I am firing one of my staff today. This guy has been a blight on the staff since day one. He is lazy and immature and I cannot wait to get rid of him. The problem, he has some sort of connection with the CEO. I don't know what that connection is, but every time I see the CEO he says "how's Stefan doing?" So...I'm sure I will be ruffling some feathers in doing this. But I don't care. My first concern is the children and I feel he has not been a good role model. A) He never ever wears his staff shirt. I know that's not a huge deal, but our shirts don't say staff on the back, they say role model. And I think it's important to wear them and be professional. B) He is not interactive with the kids. Whenever this is addressed he says "my style is more to sit and observe." Well you know what? That's not what we do. You're not just a babysitter or something. You are supposed to be providing a safe learning environment for these kids! C) His laziness has left his co-group leader to shoulder all the burden. And the kids are starting to play them against each other. He left her in tears on Friday and that was it for me. AAAARRRGGGG! I am so angry about this.

2. So, Richard interviewed for a promotion a few weeks ago. He is currently the Captain of the Urban Park Rangers. A position he earned after steadily moving up the ranks over his almost 11 years in the department. So he interviewed for a promotion to Deputy Director. A job that he is currently doing anyway. For weeks he has been waiting to hear the outcome. The Director, Sarah, does not like him. Why? Because he is honest and she is a bullshitter. About a week and a half ago she told him to stay close to his phone over the weekend because she might need to call him. So of course he got excited thinking he was going to get the position. Then Friday the bomb dropped. Just a few days prior he had sent an email to Sarah explaining all the things he feels need mending in their business relationship. He did this because she told him that she would like to bury the hatchet and support him more because he's done a great job. Friday they got in an argument about his email. I read it. It was not mean or unprofessional. He even complimented her in some parts. But she cannot take a pinch of critisism. At the end of the argument she told him that Bonnie, his subordinate, had gotten the position and that they told her two weeks ago. WHAT?! She kept telling him "It's not a big deal". Yes it is a big deal! He's more qualified and deserves the position. And then for you to promote someone OVER him that doesn't have any experience in the things required of this position?! When the other rangers found out they freaked. For two reasons. A) None of them applied for the position out of respect for Richard. B) They were all hoping to be able to apply for Richard's job once he moved up. This has been a very crushing blow to him. And Sarah said some things that were completely out of line. I hate her. Oh, and the best part? Right after this crushing blow, they had to step out to their biweekly meeting with all the rangers and they got him a cake and gifts. He tried really hard to fake like everything was ok.

Ok, bitching over. I swear.

Let's talk about the fun weekend we had.

Friday was not so good, but I did give Richard an early birthday present. Lego Batman for Playstation 2!! Woot!

Saturday we met up with Erica and Serena for Breakfast at Cafe Con Leche. It was super good and they have delicious coffee. I don't usually drink coffee, but I made an exception. During breakfast Erica regaled us with stories about her parents. I love these stories. Her parents are like, if you took a sitcom and added in a Ben Stiller comedy. For instance, they have a 7ft. ferris wheel in their living room. Yes. And they have so many christmas trees and ornaments that they leave them up all year and just throw a sheet over them. Hahaha! Love it.

Then we went to Central Park and hiked all over the place. I love doing this with Richard and Erica because they both know SO much about the park. It's like a private tour. We walked around for about 4 hours and it was tons of fun.

Then we parted ways and Richard and I went to get some cheap chinese food before heading to Barnes and Noble to look for a new planner. No luck. So we headed home and watched some tv and fell asleep on the couch.

Sunday we went grocery shopping and planned our menu for the week. Then we made a huge dinner of calamari, stuffed clams, salmon and asparagus. Yum! Friday is Richard's birthday so I'm hoping the week runs pretty smoothly so we can enjoy it.
