craftiness

I needed a toybox/storage space for Miss M's books.  She has a bookshelf in her room, but I find that we always have books scattered around the living room that she really likes and we read a lot, so it's a pain to get them out and put them back in the shelf multiple tiimes a day.  Originally I was going to look for one at the store.  I realized ( Read more... )

That's crafty and it'll probably one of the thing's Mad Dog remembers most from her childhood. The box where the books lived.
Kudos!

I hope so. I'm hoping, too, that she'll realize it's more fun to make things than to just go buy them.

Thanks! I need a toy box next. I have a great big box. I'm just trying to decide how best to decorate it.

Go you for using what you have and saving some money! Plus, if/when it gets damaged and eventually too beaten up to use, you don't feel quite so bad about it, and it's all recyclable so that's a double bonus. As jessibeaucoup says, ripple, ripple, ripple....

Thanks! It was great fun. I may try doing the same thing for a toy box for a while, too.

Yay you! I love it. And do you have Goodnight Moon memorized yet?? When S was younger, we actually had a basket of toys, books, etc. in each main area of the house that we spent time in so we weren't carting things through the house all day. I can relate with you in that it seems small, but those kinds of things really add up when it comes to little ones! Since you mentioned books, I have to suggest one for you: You Are My I Love You by Maryann Cusimano and Satomi Ichikawa. It brings tears to my eyes when I read it and it's really a wonderful book as much for parents as for kids.

We keep baskets of toys in every room of the house too. The books tend to end up in the living room, though. The board books I was just sticking in the baskets with the toys, but now she's becoming more interested in listening and looking at the pictures (she used to just want to flip the pages back and forth because they're different on each side!!! =) we're doing more paper/page books, hence the box. Goodnight Moon has been a favorite since I was tiny. In fact I just found the copy I had as a child. I definitely have it memorized. It's a good thing I love it.

I will put your book suggestion on our list of must-haves. We have a few gift certificates for book shopping, but it can be so overwhelming walking into the bookstore without any idea of what I want, so I'm trying to compile a list of suggested books so we get good ones. If you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

How neat that you found the copy of Goodnight Moon that you had when you were little!

I know about the books being overwhelming! I'd also love to hear some of the must-have's on your list. You Are My I Love You is definitely a must-have: "I am your calm face; you are my giggle. I am your wait; you are my wiggle....I am your way home; you are my new path....I am your dinner; you are my chocolate cake...." It's really wonderful and touching. I'll let you know if I think of others.
