she sleeps...

Yesterday Maddie fussed pretty much all day.  Today she is an angel!!  It's amazing the difference my outlook on life when I have adequate rest.  I'm not getting a lot of sleep, but most nights I get enough to help me feel sane, and last night was a good night.  Maddie even slept in her bassinet for over 3 hours!!

We drove to and from MT last week and had a great trip.  Madeline slept pretty much the entire time  we were in the car.  Obviously we had to make plenty of stops so she could eat, but we anticipated that.  The week we spent in MT was wonderful.
birwulf's oldest brother got married.  The brothers and a bunch of K & A's friends spent the week leading up to the wedding working really hard to get the farm ready for the shin-dig after the wedding.  While they all worked I spent my days hanging out with my mom and Dave and feeding Maddie.  It was really fun to see all the family that was there for the wedding (all 4 of Maddie's uncles, 3 aunts and 1 potential aunt, all of her grandparents, her only cousin, and lots of other extended family).  And everyone was enchanted by the newest family member.

It's funny because I actually sort of had a routine, or at least I figured out how to do the parenting thing, while we were away from home, and I was apprehensive about coming home because it meant doing things totally differently.  The nice thing was that while we were away, birwulf and I actually slept in the same bed (which we hadn't done since Maddy was born).  It's funny how necessity makes you figure out ways to cope.  And when we were in MT there was no option of sleeping in the recliner if Maddie didn't sleep in the bassinet.  So she slept with me on my side of the bed when necessary (which is funny because I was adamantly opposed to co-sleeping until she came along.  Birwulf's mom thinks it's horrible to have the baby sleep in the parent's bed, so I was always afraid she'd come in and find me with Maddie in our bed, but I'm the mom, so I figured if she said something about it, that's all I'd have to say =)  And Maddie actually did pretty well sleeping in the bassinet most nights - but it was nice having the option of snuggling her in our bed if she wouldn't settle on her own).  So now we're home.  The first night was pretty rough.  I hardly got any sleep.  But last night was fabulous (for a night spent with an infant).  I went to bed around 9:30 and birwulf stayed up with Maddie.  At 12:30 I got up and fed her.  At 1:30 I wrapped her up nice and tight, put her in the bassinet, and went to sleep, (in bed with my husband!!!), until 4:30.  Dig it people.  I got 6 hours of sleep!!!  After feeding her again I dozed in the recliner with her until about 7:30.  All in all, a really good night.  And today she's been quiet and sleepy.  I don't know what that means for tonight, but we take things an hour at a time in this house =)

And I think she smiled at me today!!!  Not an "in her sleep" smile, and not an involuntary smile, but a real smile!!

My squeaky monkey is stiring, so I'm off to change a diaper and feed her.  I've been super absent from LJ recently.  I'll try and get on more often, but can't make any promises.  I'm at least trying to read posts, even if I don't comment.  Baby crying, must go!!
