Alright. So for those who aren't familiar with the practice, it's sometimes easier for writers of original fiction to write if they have a solid picture in their head of what a character would look like if say, their story was turned into a movie.
To that end, I'm having a major issue with one character, so I'm attempting to take the problem out of my hands a bit.
She doesn't play as important a role in the story as some other characters but she's an important secondary character so I sort of need her set in my head.
Let me first give some context. The story is like...grab-bag fantasy and the character is a witch in a family of the same, as such, she doesn't age normally. Hence why she looks about the same age as her children. The character, Evelyn Weller is the matriarch for a powerful family that are the leaders of one third of the society. Evelyn is powerful person in her own, both magically speaking an in personality, but she sometimes bends her will to that of her husband Grant Weller to keep up appearances. Keeping in mind that she was born in 1861, that shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
For Grant I'm using Blair Underwood:
For her son, Holden, I'm using Taye Diggs:
For the oldest daughter, Alice, I'm using Rashida Jones:
And for the youngest daugher, Ann, I'm using Megalyn Echikonwoke
An additional fun fact: Ann is the only one of Evelyn's children that was fathered by Grant.
So these are the two actresses I'm choosing between for Evelyn.
The original was Thandie Newton.
But, I overhauled my casting and out of the 22 primary and secondary characters, Evelyn and two other people stayed the same. I thought I had everything squared away with the resets....and then I watched this weeks episode of Who Do You think You Are and it had Vanessa Williams and somehow I forgot how much I absolutely love her. So I got to thinking that she might actually make a good Evelyn.
The problem is that they're sort of....going in two different directions for her. With Thandie, I want to make her sort of...softer. And she might be two soft...considering that she has to support a great number of people emotionally, she can't be too soft hearted. On the other side, Vanessa might be too harsh for that sort of thing, too imposing where Evelyn needs to be softer and too like...strong willed to bend under her husbands thumb even only in appearances.
Idk, it's driving me nuts, so I'm putting it to poll comments are more than welcome and appreciated but just voting is fine with me.
