My work does a food bank drive around this time every year. Trying to stay one step ahead and with my improving organizational skills working for me, I decided to do my shopping on Sunday. I knew Walmart would probably have the best selection and price for my canned good needs. However, the prospect of dealing with a super Walmart on a Sunday afternoon in December was enough to induce a posttraumatic flashback to my
last encounter with General Population.
Doing a quick search on the computer, I found that the closest 'Big Lots' to me was about 10 minutes away on West Colonial Drive, in area called Pine Hills(or, as residents affectionately refer to it,"Crime Hills"). Now, I have been to a few 'Big Lots' stores, enough to know that they usually have some decent prices on canned and/or boxed food goods along with a clientele about as amusing as any random Jerry Springer episode. But that was my impression before entering "Big Lots: Crime Hills Edition". The BCCH is so ghetto there is a quarter deposit in order to obtain a shopping cart. It also contains the smallest grocery selection of any of its chain stores at not so cheap prices. Disgusted, I left my shopping cart and $0.25 deposit behind and headed over to Walmart.
$15 dollars and an exposure to what I assumed to be TB later, I was home with 6 bags full of groceries.
