another Denver company bites the dust

CenturyTel has bought Qwest, a Denver-based telecom company. Layoffs are imminent - the combined company will be based at CenturyTel's headquarters in Monroe, La., rather than in Denver, where Qwest is based. I cannot see many people from Denver relocating to Monroe, Louisiana, a tiny town in deep south.

I have applied to Qwest multiple times over the last 6 months, and in the last 2 months, my contacts there went silent. The last position I applied "disappeared". I am waiting to hear back from my contacts there to see what they are going to do next, but this is really bad news for Denver. Qwest employs something like 30K people, with 8K of them (mostly high-level jobs) are in Colorado.
