I said I wanted to get laid... not laid off!

It was bound to happne sooner or later I guess. I saw my co-workers crying all afternoon as small groups of us were taken into the manager's office, and when it was my turn I found out why. Lay offs. We've got about 125 people in my department right now. Seems that for the rest of December they only want to have 90, so they're doing an emergency temporary shift bid to cover the rest of the month, anyone who doesn't get a shift will either be a steady extra/on-call or will be sent home all together. 90 shifts. Guess what number on the senority list that I am? 93. Sucks. However, there are several older people or people with health problems who are probably taking a voluntary leave, so I'm not too worried yet. I'll probably get a temp shift. Then, supposedly, we bid like normal for a new six month (normal) shift to start in January.

They say that it's only temporary and that everything will (mostly) be back to normal next month. We'll see.

Now, my parents just moved in with me, and although my dad's on disability they can still cover the rent if need be. I'll get by. I just feel realy bad for my friends who don't have anyone to help them, especially the ones who have recently bought houses or have kids or are going to school and need to pay for that.

I kindof wish now that I hadn't schedualed my vacation already. I'll feel guilty and nervous for every penny that I spend in San Francisco now.

I know that some of you on my FList are in the same situation, so I'll just say GOOD LUCK to us all.
