[Rhade is clean now! This makes him happy. He wanted a shower after deck search like burning. And the bruise at his temple is nearly entirely gone. It's just a little greenish.] I went up to the deck and saw someone undefinable out of the corner of my eye, and also at a distance. If there's anyone else with a particularly ( Read more... )

Yes. A young woman, as it turned out. Some sort of shape-shifter. She's in Zero, now. Swore that she was doing it for our own good.

Is there a way to get to Zero without a warden?

There's always a warden on guard down there. [He avoids asking why she wants to.] Some wardens might be willing to take someone, especially new ones, and leave them unmonitored temporarily.

[Something like half an hour later.]

Did she say what she meant by 'for your own good'?

She was convinced the ship was overrun by mind-controlling aliens and I was affected by them.

I can understand the paranoia after the Magog, but she had closed herself off to all rational appeals.

Did she happen to say why she thought you were affected?

Not a clue. It might have been that I was inhuman or that I disagreed with her. Or, that she just wanted me away before I was affected.

Having to request permission to perform basic necessities was... irritating.

Was there some kind of plan beyond just keeping you tied to a chair?

I'm sure there was. It was not one she was willing to divulge and I got tired of being tied to a chair so I bit her.

...You bit her.

My hands weren't available and when I attempted to loose another captive, he fell over trying to turn to an accessible angle.

How many people did she take?

Me. Drake. Rex. Jim. Alan Wake... and I suppose Will Graham though he was in a coma and she used his form.

She used his form. Of course.

That tactic didn't seem to work out for her any better... [So much cynical amusement.]

When you can't fight with weapons and you can't fight with words, it's not reason to submit. But you shouldn't fight against reason or you betray the very civilization you want to protect.

Not that biting wasn't the most primitive tactic I could muster at the moment.

They may be as insidious as she said. [He shakes his head.] But all she did was make enemies. Including angering two Time Lords.
