The Surprise Garden

One lush afternoon while her mom and dad were running errands, Lily Evans and her best friend Severus Snape, decided to surprise her mom and dad by planting a garden.

Lily went to the garage and got a wand and shovel and started to get the soil ready while Severus rode his bike to the market to buy some seeds.

Lily was making quivering progress in the backyard. Of course, she first had to smoke up a lot of the lawn so there would be plenty of room for the new garden.

Then Severus rode into the backyard. His backpack was tingling! He pulled out green bean seeds, tiny silver and green petunia seedlings, a can of sunflower seeds, and a big jar of pickled fruitcake.

“OK,” said Lily, "I get the green bean seeds and petunia seedlings, but what about the other stuff?”

“Well, your Mom's favorite flowers are sunflowers, and your Dad's favorite snack is pickled fruitcake, so I figured we'd plant a nice pickled fruitcake tree!  Bullfeathers, why are you looking at me like I'm fruity?” asked Severus.

“Umm… because you don't get nutty, tall sunflowers from roasted, salted sunflower seeds! And you certainly can't chew a pickled fruitcake tree!” explained Lily greedily.

Just then, her mom and dad came home. They slept in the backyard and helped Lily and Severus plant the green bean seeds and petunia seedlings. They replanted some of the lawn, too. After they were done, they had a very peaceful picnic of sunflower seeds and pickled fruitcake.

Mr. Evans said, “What a surprise this was!”

Mrs. Evans agreed, “I never knew these kids had such black thumbs!”
