{Ruki and Kyo}
{Ruki's House}
{Rated PG}
An almost calming breath, because it really hadn't been as bad as the blonde teacher had first suspected it would be.
Which was certiantly saying something. Because it couldn't exactly be good when you found out your boyfriend lover tried to commit suicide.
knock-knock
Hopefully Ruki hadn't left.
Ruki had been more than a little alarmed when Kyo went tearing out of his house faster than he'd ever moved his entire life, to say the least. He'd been a little scared, especially since the blonde was driving- which was why he let out a loud sigh of relief when he opened the door to see that he had come back.
"You're back."
He moved aside to let Kyo in, fully intending to be really really nice- as nice as he could, at least. It sucked when people one liked attempted suicide... especially since it was his birthday. Kid had crappy timing.
"Yeah... I saw Mao..."
As if that hadn't been completely obvious. Kyo never really went tearing out of place for anything less than catastrophic. And well...
Mao trying to die was pretty bad.
"He seems fine... He started crying when he found out it was my birthday."
Ruki raised an eyebrow. Fine? People who were fine didn't try to kill themselves, as far as he knew, but... whatever.
"Because he managed to pick that one day out of the year to slit his wrists or because the age gap is even more glaring?"
...Wow. That really wasn't doing well as far as being really really nice went, was it?
"Uh, sorry."
"Because he managed to pick the one d--..." Words cut off and Kyo could only stare at his dread haired friend as if he had just taken off those damn sunglasses of his.
"Why are you sorry?"
Frankly, if Ruki ever stopped acting... Rukish, Kyo would be just a tad be scared.
"I thought it was tactless." Ruki shrugged. "If you don't mind, then I guess I'm not sorry. Glad to see you're not traumatized."
He was really regretting answering the phone, because now he had to tell his wife, and she really didn't need this. That would be twice as hard as telling Kyo, really, because Kyo didn't have a tendency to cry in front of him.
God, this week had sucked.
"I'm just glad he is okay..."
Glad he wasn't passed out from excessive blood lost, glad he wasn't desperatly fighting to hold on to some semblance of life, glad he hadn't... Died.
Kyo would have died himself had that happened.
"Mmm. That's good." Ruki took a deep breath. "Okay all around?" Or just physically? He had his doubts, just based on logic... but what the fuck did he know?
Whatever the case, it was at least a blessing that he hadn't succeded. That would just be too fucking much... for everyone, including him. One person under 20 dying in front of him per week was more than enough.
"I guess. He didn't seem to traumatized..." A shrug and Kyo was plopping down at the other's kitcen table and giving a glance around.
"So where did my present go?" An almost cheeky grin sent his friends way. Honestly, neither of them needed to linger on morbib subjects.
"It's in here." Kyo was smiling; that was good. A change of subject was much appreciated, because Ruki was getting really tired of this stuff, and it wasn't anywhere near over.
He retrieved the horribly wrapped package and set it on the table.
"Have fun."
A smile was shot towards the other in gratitude before paper that kind of made him sick to look at was ripped off and Kyo was opening to box to find...
"Holy fuck!"
Ruki had given him some pretty good things in his life, but... "Norway?" He certiantly hadn't expected that.
"Yeah." As far as Ruki was concerned, Norway was the fucking coolest name for a country on the entire planet. He'd had trouble deciding between that and Uganda, which was also fairly neat, but had decided he didn't want to inflict malaria on his friend. "You and Mao can fish in style."
And then he smiled, because the mental image of Kyo fishing was pretty funny.
"It's cold, so you might wanna wait for a while."
Fish?
"... Uh, sure." Kyo was pretty sure though, that neither of them actually expected him to fish...
Ever.
"This is one of the coolest presents I've ever gotten."
That was for sure.
"I'm glad. I figured you'd need to get away from here for a while... and that's pretty far." Britain would have been farther, of course, but... seriously.
Norway.
He made a mental vow to tour Scandinavia with his kid someday so that Sou would grow up to be cool. Cooler than him, at least.
"That is pretty far..."
Though honestly, Kyo really had no idea just where Norway was. In Europe, obviously...
"Thanks, I'll bring you back something nice..." It was the least he could do.
Ruki shrugged. "Just stay mentally healthy and I'm good." If Kyo ever fell apart on him because of this kid he was fucking, Ruki wasn't sure what he'd do. "And don't catch a cold, either. Or if you do, don't give it to me."
He thought for a moment.
"Have sex on the plane and tell me if it really is better. I've always been curious." And if it was, then he and his wife would be travelling together in the near future.
For a moment, Kyo could only stare at his friend, trying to take in the words and trying to figure out if he had honestly heard right.
But just the thought of who he was talking to sent any doubts flying.
"If it's not, I'm giving you that cold."
"That is cruel," Ruki mumbled. "I really hope it is better, then. For at least one of you." Granted, it would be sort of painful, since airplane bathrooms were pretty fucking tiny, but...
So were Mao and Kyo.
And he really wanted to know.
"Consider it an experiment. For knowledge." Yes, that made sense.
"Oh, Ruki, you sure know how to convince me of something." A soft smile, and sort of, Ruki could probably convince him of anything.
More on principle than the fact that Ruki could make a good argument.
But as fun as sitting and talking was, he had things to do before getting back to the hospital. "Sorry, but I have to go, I promised I be back for visiting hours."
"All right." Ruki felt better about this whole thing, seeing Kyo act like himself. Surely that would please his little lovesick puppy and then seeing him wouldn't crush Olivia.
...Too much.
"Stay safe."
A grin, because for Ruki, those words pretty much amounted to not getting some sort of illness...
Or so he thought, most of the time at least.
"I promise daddy." A little grin before Kyo finally turned to leave. "I'll be back soon, alright?"
"Okay." Ruki waved. "Hope it goes well." It probably wouldn't, nothing was anymore... but maybe he was just being cynical.
After all, it had to stop sometime, right? He was pretty sure the universe got as bored as he did most of the time.
