Rusty Beck - Casualty of Society

Subject|Pairing: Rusty Beck
Title: Casualty of Society
Warnings: Though the songs don't seem dark on the surface, you'll slowly realize that this is a dark fanmix.
Notes: Cover made by CaptainRaydor on Tumblr.

These Eyes - The Guess Who
While this is an older song, I thought it went very appropriately with this mix. Rusty just wants his mom. He's cried time and time for her and she's let him down constantly.

Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
This is more Sharon and Rusty than just Rusty. The boy just wants to be cared about. Not necessarily cared for, he's done that for himself already. It's just been a long time since he's been cared about. Though this seems more of a "romantic" song, it isn't to be taken as such in this song. He just wants Sharon to see him, essentially.

Why Am I the One - FUN.
This has to do with the time Daniel came in and threatened everything Sharon and Rusty had built. Though, I think this song is most about Rusty in this whole mix. "Why am I the one always packing up my stuff? I get the feeling that I'm right where I belong."

Everybody's Talkin' - Harry Nilsson
Rusty has been pushed from place to place and has really had no say over it, so he usually ran away. So when he went to visit his "father" and the man's wife-to-be, he was dealt a deck of cards that were less than ideal and ended with a fist to the face from Daniel. So, he ran. The only thing he really knows to do in a situation like that. Can't say I blame him.

Fat Lip - Sum 41
The title of the mix is from this song. Seems that no matter what Rusty did to get ahead, he's beaten down. When he visits his father, he's left with a fat lip and the feeling that the man felt like Sharon Beck should have just had an abortion, that Rusty's existence is a problem. However, Rusty won't conform to his wishes and will do everything not to become a victim of society.

Blackbird - Evan Rachel Wood (the Across the Universe soundtrack)
I chose this version of this song because I felt it made more sense. Light and gentle. Rusty is now free. Free from his father and free to live with Raydor without any real worries. He's come a long way from the beginning of season one to now.
