Oh my. So since two or three weeks my parents have no working telephone anymore (their regular telephone, mobile still works). First they didn't tell me about it, then they did. They live on the other end of Germany, so I can't just come over there and fix it. The telephone company can send somebody and fix it, but that costs a lot of money. My father has a rough understanding of electronics, but has very crappy hearing, so he doesn't want to call that company. My mother has good hearing, but has no experience whatsoever with anything remotely related to internet or telephones or whatever (I think she's never been on the internet in her entire life), so while she can call that company, she doesn't know what they are talking about.
So I called the telephone company, but that doesn't work too well. I ask my mother what lamps are blinking on the router, I ask the telephoen company what's that supposed to tell anybody, and so on, tried it, didn't work. I called them again, explained them the situation, they said they'll call my parents and help them fix it, they never did.
My sister lives in the same city as my parents. I told my parents to ask my sister to just come over, fix it herself, or call the company and fix it with them. My parents don't want that, I assume because my sister ripped off my parents for a lot of money a couple of years ago.
So I suggested that my parents just ask a neighbor. My mother has a number of friends even in the same house, among them an IT guy from the local university living just one floor beneath my parents. She said that she'll ask them. Now, a week later, she complains that it still doesn't work. When I ask about the neighbor or sister thing, she said that she did neither. ... The thing is that she always tells me that on a sunday, when it's too late to visit them on that weekend to fix it. Also, visiting them by train costs like 150€, and for that money they can have the telephone company send somebody over...
I don't know. It's very frustrating for everybody. It's frustrating for my mother because she wants the phone to work. It's frustrating for my father, because the internet still works but because my mother keeps bugging him to do something. It's frustrating for me, because I feel somewhat responsible, but can't really do anything about this situation. I want to slap the telephone company for not calling back my parents, I want my parents to finally just ask a neighbor to fix it, and I want my sister to just cross the tiny city they live in and fix it too. Sheesh...
