Hey there, Kristina

Aug 10, 2008 00:06

A good violin-playing friend of mine likes a girl in Toronto named Kristina. So we spent a few hours eating sushi and talking about everything under the sun and rewrote this song so that when Kristina and my good friend meet in a week, she can serenade Kristina with the following lyrics.

hey there, Kristina
what's it like in T Dot City?
I'm three thousand miles away
but girl, tonight you look so pretty
yes, you do
SkyDome can't shine as bright as you
I swear it's true

hey there, Kristina
don't you fret about the distance
we'll have fun while we can
give this song another listen
close your eyes
listen to my voice, it's my surprise
I'm by your side

oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
what you do to me

hey there Kristina
I know that you're in a pickle
just believe me, girl
someday I'll pay my airfare with this fiddle
and have it good
we'll share the cost just like we should
understood?

hey there, Kristina
I've got so much left to say
if every thoughtful text I send to you
would take your breath away
I'd type it all
or I'd make a long distance phone call
we'd have a ball

oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me

three thousand miles seems pretty far
but I'll take planes and trains or cars
I'd walk it if I had no other way
our friends will all hang out with us
and we'll just laugh along because
we know they've all been waiting for this day
Kristina I can promise you
that by the time the summer's through
our bond will never ever be the same
and that's the aim

hey there, Kristina
you sit tight and don't you miss me
three more years and I'll be done with school
and I'll be making music like I do
you know it's all because of you
we can do whatever we want to
hey there, Kristina, here's to you
this Bud's for you

oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
oh it's what you do to me
what you do to me

She was playing her guitar masterfully while we giggled and squealed about what to change from the original. I think it works perfectly. I can't wait to hear about how it goes.
