Advent Calendar - 1st December

Dec 02, 2009 00:28

As promised (and 30mins to go before midnight), the 1st door of my Advent calendar!

This will be probably one of the more boring entries, I'm afraid... so anti-climactic, I know. ;)

First of all, a bit of an explanation.

I know, I know, this will come as a bit of a shock for most of you but... I'm a geek. *giggles* Always have been. I was the odd kid at school. All my friends squeed over NKOTB, I devoured news about that new movie about a vampire slayer. It was in 7th grade that I got into a fight with another girl (former friend of mine) when those of my class mates who sided with her, told me, I need to grow up and stop living in that fantasy TV world. That I should start living in the real world. It was the first but certainly not the last time. Back then, I thought I was just some kind of freak of nature. The only one who was more interested in movies and TV shows than fashion and the newest boy band. Later I found a small circle of friends who liked the same movies as I did but even they got scared at times by my level of devotion/ obsession for certain TV shows (*cough*Angel*cough*Lost*cough*) or actors (*cough*Ian*cough*).
Now I know, I'm not the only one. I have you guys. And I know that being a geek doesn't mean you're a loony loser. Geeks can be successful. Geeks are cool.

And I'm proud to be a geek!!!

So for today I need to show off my "wall of geek pride" *snickers*

The middle part of my living room cupboard. Full of DVDs and other geeky goodness.

Top left corner: Doctor Who and Torchwood

Top right corner: Supernatural with "Baby Angel Castiel" and "Baby Angel Gabriel" (I bought the 2 little angel figures this Sunday at our Christmas market. They're so cute, I couldn't resist, AND they had me thinking of "my" angel Cas. ;) Told you I was a geek, didn't I?)

Next to it... my Star Wars VIDEO TAPES (don't ask) and DVDs, with my collection of Kinder Surprise Star Wars Happy Hippos. And my LOST DVDs.

Next level: Angel DVDs (incomplete), Firefly and Serenity... Harry Potter DVDs and my 2 Harry Potter owls (I also have 2 white ones). I used one of the owls frequently in class last year. There are some class room activities which require a soft ball and because I didn't have one, I decided to bring one of the owls. It had the right size and well... owls fly, right? *gg* My students (most of them older than me) were highly amused.

More Buffy merchandise and the box contains a "survival set for slayers". My friends made this for me for my birthday years ago. It contains a wooden cross, a little wooden stake and 2 bottles of "holy" water (it's just regular water, tho, but shhh... vampires don't need to know, eh?), my Buffy DVDs (also incomplete) and Bones season 1.

Next to it: Twilight books (going with the whole vampire theme here). The Coca Cola truck is just totally randomly there. LOL!

Next 2 layers contain all my other DVDs (in alphabetical order). And next to it:

My precious Robin of Sherwood DVDs *hearts*. George Takei's autobiography (signed and personalized), John Barrowman's autobiography (signed, not personalized), a book about Norway (aka twin country) and Hawaii and Love Letter's to the South, a picture book with pictures and personal letters from Ian, Maggie and lots and lots of other people. Part of the money they made from that book went to the victims of Katrina.

Last layer: I'm in the process of a little redecorating, so this is where all my family pictures will be but I want to re-frame them and re-arrange them, exchange them for new ones etc, so for now there's only my "other" advent calendar there, which was a surprise gift from my friend Christine.

Right of all this, on top of my "bar": This used to be my "New York shrine" but it is slowly turning into an Ian shrine. ;) Ah well, Ian loves New York. In the brownish frame is my first Ian autograph, which I got from sawyersjewel , 2nd one is in the bluish frame, which he signed at the con in Pasadena. Thank you card from Ian, my 2 custom made cards of Boone and Shannon (the artist Grant Gould is a genius!), SPD square (random), and some souvenirs from New York (including a straw from Dunkin Donuts!)

This is on top of my other bookshelf: Yes seeing Ian, Maggie and Jason Bourne is more important than seeing the time. LOL! No, as I said, I'm rearranging stuff right now and I think it's time that I hung that clock up on the wall properly, not just lean it against the wall on top of the shelf.

Yup, that's it. Of course now it is half past midnight but ah well... these things take time. ;) More tomorrow!
