After being delayed all night, Ricardo had finally made up his paste to post his open letter on the doors. He was rounding the corner when he heard the roar. He immediately began casting on the grounds that, since last night, he assumed that anything animal was probably out to kill him. He stopped short though; something was off.

First of all, it was mechanical. That was new. The monsters had been twisted and unnatural, but always organic. Second of all, it was day and the things didn't seem to come out in daylight... probably. But then why was this mechanical dragon doing in the hall?

He watched it in silence for now, prepared to resume casting at any moment, trying to determine if it was dangerous or not.

Shadow sensed that he was being watched. Even if he was a Zoid, there was enough emotional response to situations programmed into him that made him feel like there were eyes watching him. It was a natural instinct for any Zoid. After all, who knew when those eyes belonged to a stronger foe?

He peered around and spotted the human. An adult...he snorted slightly, eyes narrowed. He didn't like the human adults. They made master do things he didn't always want to. Not that they really could do much, but it was still a sore spot that Raven couldn't always do what he wanted to. Anyway.

The Organoid stood easily, not drawn to his full height, just balanced well enough to fight if he had to. Humans didn't generally like him. The hallway was small, so he couldn't really fly, but he could still give the man a decent whack if he tried anything stupid.

It surely saw him. It saw him and it wasn't attacking him yet. That was a good sign. The snort and that look on its face-- could a machine have a face?-- weren't especially friendly, but at least it wasn't attacking.

"Can you hear me?" His voice was neutral for now, but threats lurked just beneath the surface. The last time he'd seen a mechanical beast, it had a very human pilot inside. The kind of human who didn't care that its machine was using other humans as fuel. Ricardo didn't get along with that kind of human, as a matter of principle.

Totally okay~ umbradraconis October 7 2011, 01:36:27 UTC
If Shadow was able to, he would have eyerolled at that. Did the man think him stupid? Zoids were smarter than that, even if the bigger ones usually relied more on their pilots. Instead he just nodded slightly, the movement a little awkward but obvious as to what it was.

He was wary still though, but didn't move yet. He wasn't sure how well he'd be able to react inside, so it'd be easier if the human would move closer first, in the event he had to attack. Hopefully though he wouldn't. Shadow didn't really want to break the man. Zoids were more fun, and had a purpose for being destroyed.

Yes, actually. Ricardo thought him stupid in the same way one thinks a lamp or a corkscrew is stupid. He didn't mean it to be offensive. It just never occurred to him that the machine itself could be alive. He relaxed a little bit, but his hand still hovered near his rifle.

"Would you come out? I like seeing who I'm speaking to. Face to face."

And he would like to speak to them. Something this big and complicated wasn't allowed to go stomping around his house without him knowing more about it, thank you very much.

That...got an amused sound that would have been a snort on an organic creature. Shadow wasn't a normal Zoid, stupid human. He had no pilot. Since he couldn't talk and he wasn't about to let this person talk to some imaginary human, he pulled himself upright, the plates on his chest, stomach and neck retracting to reveal the hollow interior, the only thing inside wires and various mechanical things. The plates slide back into place and he settled back into his normal stance, and watched the man. What now, stupid human?

What now? That was the question, wasn't it. Technology was a tool. He had never seen it act without a human telling it what to do. Even the unmanned Giantesses were acting on orders their creators had given them. What he had here was a powerful tool, and no way of knowing what orders it had been given by whom-- if it had orders at all. The Giantesses had a very limited range of responses. This thing was, at the very least, using a very thorough program.

"What are you here for?" he asked, still hanging back.

Stupid, stupid human. He should have figured by now that Shadow couldn't talk. The Organoid rumbled in a neutral sort of way, not taking his eyes off Ricardo just yet. He still didn't trust the man.

To be fair, it wasn't just stupidity. The thing hadn't come off as especially friendly so it seemed possible that it was just being surly and refusing to speak. The Giantesses could 'speak' to some degree, and he had already spoken to a burlap doll here; at this point he wouldn't be shocked to find hairbrush that could talk. But this was just far enough over the line from uncooperative that he figured it out. He tried again.

"Are you here on purpose?"

That got a negative rumble. Shaking his head was possible, but it disorientated him somewhat. So the sound worked better, with just the slightest movement from side-to-side with his head. It felt strange using human movements, but clearly they were needed.

Then it probably was just like the rest of the residents. Well... as much like them as it could be when it was gigantic and made of metal, but it wasn't an agent of the house. Good enough. He gestured to the letter on the front doors.

"If you can read, you'll find a few answers in there. We don't know everything, but if you have any other questions--"

He stopped again. Right. No voice. This was undoubtedly the most troublesome resident he'd come across.

"Is there another way you usually communicate?"

A letter? He turned to look over at it, snapping a shot of it to read later. Hm.

As for the communication question...he turned back to Ricardo and rumbled a semi-positive sound. Master could understand him when he was joined to a Zoid. But in general no, he went without talking to anyone but the Zoids, and that was different to this.
