The sounds of running animals might have been reassuring in some other circumstance. The scrabble-click of claws against marble floors, the energetic barking of excited dogs, the promise of comfort and companionship and warmly unconditional love..... The very presence of these things should have spelled out safety and normalcy, or at the very least, steadfast, courageous protection.

And at first, indeed, that was what it seemed to promise. They blew around the corner, bounding and jostling, four long sleek bodies devouring the distance with uncanny speed as they raced straight for the confrontation. One howled, challenging and authoritative, demanding immediate compliance; the chestmouth monsters groaned and shuffled reluctantly, pausing in mid-bite. They howled again, and the chestmouth monsters growled their displeasure, but reluctantly loosed their grips, maws gaping open to allow Haru to fall to the ground.

Only once salvation seemed at hand did things begin to take a visible turn for the worse.

The dogs fanned out and advanced, gruff barks and huffing snorts driving the chestmouth monsters back before them, but as they approached Haru, a change swept over them. They didn't seem quite like dogs anymore--not like any Haru might have ever seen, at least. Whereas before, they had simply looked like massive greyhounds, now they seemed to be dying and decaying in stop-motion photography, even as they moved. The stench of rot hung heavy in the air as their skin grew spongy and soft, fur patchy and slick with slime, nails gone from blunt to brutally ripping claws. Their breath was rank with the scent of corpses, and they trailed viscous ropes of mucus and saliva from long lolling tongues hanging over yellowed fangs; they stalked forward to stand over Haru as they surrounded him, intelligence and intent obvious in every step.

The quarter winced at being suddenly dropped. He had flopped to the ground slamming his face into the hard wood. The sensation stung but it brought him back to his senses which pulled back from paralyzing clarity at the shock of what he thought was going to happen. He blushed unable to rid himself of the twisted feelings that came with the pain.

Haru shuddered in fear and pain induced pleasure. Red ebbing from the bloody mess which served as his right hand and left foot quickly washed away the fear and just as quickly. Haru shakily smiled at the source of his salvation. Dogs? Well they were certainly bigger than any dog he had ever seen they looked more like wolves but they seemed friendly enough at first glance. The idea of being saved was so encouraging Haru moved to sit up, struggling with his newly useless appendanges and blood loss.

The whore quickly understood how wrong he was when the dogs started the change. Worse yet he knew the behavior that the animals displayed which was so very human. The creature hadn't wanted to save him they were here to steal him from the other beasts! His heart sank the situation had gone from a slow agonizing death by two mouths to being torn apart by bunch.

Half tempted to move in order to cover is nose from the stench of sickness oozing from their mouths, Haru remained still looking up. A small fleck of hope real or not triggered by the dogs made Haru want to live or at the very least go out kicking and screaming. The quarter glared at the beasts and looked the one in front in the eyes.

"If I'm going to die anyways I might as well die trying to kick your asses! Bring it bitches!"

For a moment, the dogs just watched, eyes bright as they studied his movements. One to the side snuffled at the ragged stump of what had once been a hand, but for the most part, they were silent and still--it was the one who stood before Haru, largest and obviously the alpha, who seemed to act for them all--

--and the alpha was unimpressed.

It cocked its head at Haru in a very human gesture of consideration, before offering a short, sharp bark--challenge accepted. It pawed at the ground, not even needing to move forward just yet with such long legs, and lifted a paw to plant against Haru's chest and give him a hard shove to knock him back down. The effort seemed almost dismissive in its cool practicality; it obviously didn't see the need for a burst of violence just yet.

It was a stupid idea but hey it yielded results. Encouraged by the fact that he manged to pick the leader to pick a fight with, Haru grinned.

The dog was strong. Stronger than him but maybe it wasn't as quick. There was only one way to find out and the quarter knew better than to waste the opportunity. As Haru moved back by the force of the blow, his good hand reached up to dig his nails into the side of the Alpha's neck.

It was difficult to tell if the dog was quick or not, by simple virtue of the fact that it didn't even try to dodge--in fact, it simply stepped forward to meet him, twisting its head to the side and leaning into the blow. It yelped as sharp claws pierced into the meat of its shoulder--the flesh parted easily, easily, far too easily, squelching nauseatingly and releasing an even fouler odor as thick, sticky blood and worse fluids soaked Haru's hand; his fingers sank deep into the dog's flesh with barely any resistance at all, not unlike a feverishly hot, rotting peach, until he could feel the tips of his claws graze solid bone.

But even with the acknowledgment of pain, it seemed almost inconsequential, in the long run. Torn muscle tissue bunched and quivered, slick and slippery as it writhed around Haru's fingers while the hellhound moved steadily forward, completely ignoring the wound; the shove was violent, and it was fully ready to straddle the quarter and brace its massive paws against his shoulders to pin him down.

Haru made a vaguely horrified face at the sensation of actually touching dog. It stank. It stank so damn bad and the feeling of passing his nails through the creature. This was a bad idea. VERY bad idea.

Strength and surprise made it easy for the dog to stand over Haru with paws on his shoulders. Being dominated and trapped under that thing in this position. It reminded him of things he didn't want to be reminded of. Haru couldn't help himself. He lost control of himself and screamed.

"YOU SICK SICK FUCK! YOU SMELL WORSE ON THE INSIDE! YOU SICK ROTTING PILE OF SHIT! GET OFF OF ME!"

The quarter tried clawing at the dog and struggling. However he whatever his intentions might be, the blood was still running. It wouldn't be long before his body called it quits even if the quarter didn't want to.

For all of Haru's struggles, the fight seemed futile; the dog snarled and growled in pain, and Haru's claws raked and tore and its broad chest, laying open soft muscle and leaving rivulets of blood and fluids to patter down onto his face and chest. Its jaws stretched open, impossibly wide, foul and dripping as its maw came down straight over Haru's flailing arms to sink its fangs into his throat.
