The Christmas Carol Inquisition

Dec 09, 2009 21:07

I've been conducting an experiment today.
With the help of my handy assistant Skye, I've kept a running tally of every Christmas carol/festive ditty played at work today between 11am and 8pm. SRSLY.
Check it.
These are each different versions of the same carols by the way, and medleys counted once towards each song contained therein.
The standing winner with 5 plays is that old cracker Silent Night, followed closely by Frosty the Snowman with 4 plays, and then a 6-way tie amongst O Come All Ye Faithful, White Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, Here Comes Santa Claus, and Jingle Bells, all receiving 3 plays each.
Songs with 2 plays: This Christmas, Deck The Halls, Silver Bells, Joy To The World, The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, Winter Wonderland, Christmas Bells (the one that goes ding-dong, we weren't sure what it's called), Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Sleigh Ride, and Let It Snow.
Songs with 1 play: So This Is Christmas, At Christmas Time, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, O Christmas Tree, Jingle Bell Rock, The First Noel, Auld Lang Syne, Little Drummer Boy, Merry Christmas, Kris Kringle, Home For The Holidays, We Three Kings, and Last Christmas.

What did I learn from this exercise? That the songs don't repeat as much as I'd thought. That they put away all the versions of Little Drummer Boy today because they obviously knew what I was up to. And that taking your mind off the horror of the constant carol psychoterrorism that is the supermarket sound system at Christmas can be a very good thing for your blood pressure.

My next mission: Count how many songs play that AREN'T carols!
