Polaris costuming plans...
Now that it's June, Polaris 26 is coming on fast! I pretty much took it easy with costuming last year. I was still working full time and paying Toronto rent, so I was low on cash and time. Now that I'm back living at home (and still currently unemployed /grumblegrumble), I have the time to do some fun stuff.
I've been a bit in love with The Avengers since I saw the movie a few weeks ago, and of course that manifested itself in designing dresses. So uh, this happened:
I actually made a whole series of Avengers ballgowns, which you can see on my tumblr over here.
I decided to make the Iron Man dress, since I think it'd be the most recognizable and who the flip doesn't want to be Tony Stark? I'm going with the skirt design from the back view, except with the tulle on the inside instead of on top.
So, I pulled out my blocks and got to drafting and here's what I have!
Sorry for crappy webcam pics, my camera's been dead for a while. The skirt and peplum were drafted from my standard skirt block. It's a bit hard to see, but there are curved seams on the side where the gold fabric is going to go. The bottom of the skirt is a half-circle.
The bodice needs some tweaking, and obviously I need to draw on the lines where I want the curved layers to go. I want it to be self-supporting, so its going to have to be VERY snug and boned. I have a feeling I may be investing in a pair of spanx for this dress...
I picked up some red and gold poly satin from a Fabricland closing sale. It's 100% dead dinosaur, but for a masquerade costume, it does the trick!
It's pretty flopping, so I may flat-line the structured section of the skirt to give it some body. The bodice is going to be entirely interfaced.
So I'm feeling in pretty good shape about it! I only have to fuss around with the bodice a bit. The cape part will be easy enough to draft.
To Buy:
1. An arc reactor toy. Toys R Us only has the triangle ones, so I'm going to have to poke around
2. Yellow/gold tulle
3. Red gloves
4. Gold mask
