First costume post in an age and a half!

Hey guys! Still not dead! And I shall be using this journal to make a costume update!

For the first time in forever, I've actually found a historic ball here in Toronto that isn't $120 to attend. The Jane Austen Dancers have started hosting balls in the City, and this is the first time I've been able to attend. There's also going to be a Georgian Breakfast at Montgomery's Inn the next morning, so I've got two outfits to make!

Mostly I'm just tuning up and finishing off projects started from a year ago.

Obviously first layer would be my shift, but it's currently in the wash. My regency corset it one of the first costume projects I ever finished at the tender age of 17, but it still fits great and is totally comfy, so go little me! It really doesn't fit my dress form because it's completely a different shape than me.

The petticoat I started over two years ago now. It's made of cotton sateen and has tucks at the bottom and centre front buttons.

For the ball, I'm going for my white muslin gown. Not terribly original, but it fits great and it tons of fun to wear!

I might try it with this ribbon as a sash, although I'm not as much of a fan of the really thick sashes on me. I may head downtown and see if I can find a fun patterned ribbon instead.

For the breakfast, I finally finished off the red open robe I made at about age 16 and never finished because the back didn't fit. Well, I took it apart and re-sewed it as best as I could and bam!

I love the look of the giant kerchiefs tucked into the front of robes you see in 1790s fashion plates.

I might even wear this over the blue regency dress I made for my sister if she decides to come. I think it would give it more of a day wear look, and I love the mix of contrasting colours and patterns women used in the early regency.

My to-do list that's left is:

1. Make a redicule out of some purple brocade I bought way back
2. Figure out something to do with my hair. It's pretty short and asymatrical and BLUE these days, so I may just curl it and throw a scarf over it. Luckily Regency is one of the few eras where women can have short hair and it still works.
3. Finish hemming my kerchief. So far there is no visible machine stitching on this outfit, which means I need to hand-hem this giant thing. /grumbles
4. Collect the blue dress from my sister if I decide to go that route.

So pumped!
