I am tired. So freaking tired. Today the patio at work was officially open, meaning that it's full service out there, self-serve inside where I work, and all the food and drinks have to go through me. It was crazy. By 10 pm we couldn't pour pitchers or pints because there was nothing to serve them in - all the glasses were out on the tables or in the dishwasher. That's how busy it was. All that work and I made less than $20 in tips. There had better be a few bills waiting for me from the servers  when I go in tomorrow morning. *Sigh* tomorrow's going to be more hell. Saturdays are always bad to begin with. And there's no end in sight for me. I'm working saturday, sunday, monday, wednesday, friday, saturday, sunday... By the time I take a weekend off for Anime North, I'm not going to want to go back.

I asked to start serving on the patio last month. I figure I can cope with this job as long as I don't spend every day behind the food counter. But, in all those shifts for the next week and a half, I'm inside. I really, really hope that I was just forgotten and that a polite request will get me a shift for the following week. Because if I am being refused patio work, I am going to look for another job.

While the work itself really takes it out of me, and lord knows I need the money, What has me worried most after seeing my schedule for this week is that I'm not going to have enough energy for my AN costume. The piece itself is fairly simple, but it's detail-intensive-time-consuming work because I'm anal like that, and I know I'm not going to want to work on it after slinging pierogies for 8 hours a day. I'm still going to track my progress on this [spectacular failure of a] costume here.

So here's what I started with: a couple bottles of dye and an ill-fitting zentai suit from good old eBay. (also want to take this opportunity to say that i realize the green colour isn't as accurate as possible - but this stuff glows under black light!!!!! *squee*

Several hours of ripping out seams on the gloves and a test of the black dye later, this is what I had when I went to bed on Wednesday night:

Thursday was painting the green on the hands, realizing that I had painted the wrong foot black while looking at my reference images!!! and thus continuing to paint Wii-version Midna instead of Cube-version as I had wanted to do. Thursday night results:

Here is where I start to run into bigger problems:
1) the green appears to go on evenly... but when it dries it becomes very splotchy. Any place with slightly more or slightly less dye shows up as different colours. I can see the uneven-ness from across the room. Can't think of a way to fix it.
2) I realized that my brilliant plan of painting the hands while still in the middle of being re-sized is going to backfire since the green needs to match on the front and the back... at first glance I had thought the green was only on the back of her fingers.
3) Even with my alterations, it still doesn't fit right and doesn't look all that great on me.
4) How to close the holes I need to cut in the palms of the gloves so that I can actually survive for the weekend (ie getting in and out on my own is important, as is the ability to eat).

So far, I found some tiny snaps in my sewing stuff which should work for #4. Still stressing on the rest.
in any case, I finished cutting and hemming the holes in the palms, got the design on her hip painted on, and played with filling in the black a little tonight:

And if I don't sleep now, I'll never make it to work tomorrow T_T
yay.
