I wanna be a special snowflake

Because I'm an excellent procrastinator, I decided to clean up my cos.com PM messages tonight, deleting the one hundred some-odd messages about how I made my Midna costume, most well over a year old. And in the process, I poked at the galleries of all these girls who'd asked for advice to see what had become of their plans.
While most were what I'd expected, either nothing or decent results using similar techniques or materials to mine, there was one gallery which bothered me. I know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but looking through the photos I almost had to wonder how my costume ended up on a stranger. She had not made a Midna costume, but recreated my Midna costume. Materials, colours, techniques, flaws, inaccuracies... everything. I shared my costume details freely, knowing people would try the same things, but I expected improvements on my design, not replicas.
Guess I have to keep reminding myself that not everyone wants their costume to be different from the rest...
