Cosplay and Hearts

I've really been slacking off on the costumes lately, but what can I say? School and work are more important, and there's nothing to be done about that. However, I do have a mini-update, photo-heavy as usual ^_^

First and foremost, HAIRCUT. I think I want Lacey to be my personal stylist from now on. She's even offered to curl it for me before photos, whenever that may be.

the dye removal process continues with Gabriel. I think I'm going to try one more wash, with either bleach or another whitening substance. As it is, the outfit is substantially lighter than it was several weeks ago, in fact I'd call it "off-white" at this point, but I'd still like it even lighter. (not to mention that the splotchy parts are still, well, dark and splotchy). For reference, my bedroom door is white:

Other than the lightening, I just need to install zippers into the chaps, and I'll be happy with it.

Also in progress, is the never-ending CATS project. My current challenge on it is the wig. Over the christmas holidays I made my wig-cap/base, and now I'm making, tuft by tuft, the "fur". "Time Consuming" is an understatement. My goal of having the costume finished for Ad-Astra was extremely unrealistic. Here you can see how far I've gotten with the black fur, and the baggie of white which I'm picking apart on my daily commute, to fuzz-up at home. Maybe next year...

Since there's no way I'm letting AN go by without completing Midna, I've started working on that already, too. After much deliberation and consultation, I've decided to so with craft foam for the hair, using the technique usually designated as for armor. So far, I've cut out and shaped the bangs, just to see how it's going to work. Results are satisfactory, but I think I'm going to have to leave my "Nintendo hair" simply as it is here instead of as a cosed shape with a piece across the back. It's just too difficult to get another piece of foam to sit across the back without the edges being very sloppy. I think it'll be OK anyways.

Since Valentines day seems to be quite the hot-topic, my thoughts: while a more appropriate name for the holiday these days might be Consumerist Bullshit Day, the warm and fuzzy part of me thinks it's great that there is a day designated to telling those you love, be it partner(s), friends, or family, that you care about them. I have had a most excellent day. Up until the wee hours of the morning last night catching up with an old friend over tea and cake, getting to sleep in, catching up on my emails and messages, having a friendly and surprisingly relaxed dinner with Chris, and then watching Amelie with my awesome house mates. Let's forget about who is or isn't getting laid on one random day of the year, and just focus on those around us who are important, shall we?

Happy Valentines Day, everyone.
