Yumi’s Mission
A Rurouni Kenshin Drabble
By Maho-chan
Yumi goes on a frightening mission for Shishio.
Hi there! This very short story was written for
rikkitsune for the 100 words drabble meme on Livejournal. I enjoyed writing it and though that maybe others might enjoy reading it, so here it is.
Disclaimer: Of course, I don’t own Rurouni Kenshin.
Yumi’s Mission
A Rurouni Kenshin Drabble
By Maho-chan
Yumi stealthily hastened towards the small cabin cloistered in the forest, occasionally batting away a mosquito and all the while trying to keep her provocative outfit intact.
When Shishio had suggested the attempt to infiltrate Seijuro Hiko’s hideout and learn more about the master of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, she agreed wholeheartedly to take the job, knowing that it was a key role in Shishio’s plans. However, after traveling up the mountain, wearing close to nothing as her only real weapon, she started to regret her choice. There were bugs everywhere, as well as mud. And horror of horrors, a bat had swooped down on her a few moments ago. She was pretty sure it was actually some kind of demon out to get her, given its circling movements around her head.
The cabin loomed eerily in the darkness, a welcome sight compared to the devil bat and the vampiric mosquitoes that had it in for her. Straightening her off the shoulder kimono and widening the slit to reveal her shapely legs, she knocked on the door.
There was no answer.
Furrowing her brow, she knocked again,
Again, no answer.
A howl sounded in the distance, sounding strangely like her name. Startled, she turned and saw a leery owl looking at her, eyes bright in the dark. Mustering up all her courage, Yumi knocked again and again, as the howls grew closer. A branch fell on her head and she nearly screamed, her kimono almost falling apart completely. Shadows moved along the ground and Yumi had the eeriest feeling that she was being cornered. When the second branch fell on her head, followed by a howl from directly behind the cabin, she lost control and screamed bloody murder, grabbing her skirts and running as fast as she could.
Hiko watched the frightened woman from his vantage point in the trees, laughing softly. Dropping the rest of the loose branches to the ground, he concentrated his Ki and sent it out in thanks to the woodland creatures that helped him. He jumped to the ground and still chuckling, relit his kiln fire, grabbed a cupful of Sake and congratulated himself on yet another creative and ingenious dispatch of an enemy.
