Hi, peoples! I am glad because I spend $105 at
World Market and got a nice chunk of my Christmas shopping done today. Thank God Katie suggested going. All of their Christmas stuff is on sale, plus everything is 10% off for the next 3 days, I think.
Amazing as that is, and while it is the cause of my current giddiness, it is not the main reason for my updating. That is an article, written by a NY Times bestseling author and found via
Lauren Royal's monthly newsletter. She writes historicals, good stuff.
Anyway,
the article. By
Tess Gerritsen, an author of medical thrillers (I believe), it regards the sort of literary hierachy of genre. She discusses how people are condescended to for reading anything other than the accepted "good" literature, and that that's taken the pleasure out of it. It's humorous, as well as very well put. Here's a snippet:
"So here’s a new and revolutionary proposal: let people read what they want to read. Let them eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if they want to. Some of them will eat the occasional Brussels sprout and like it. But don’t make them think they’re any less virtuous for shunning it."
Check it out. For Sam:
