Chapter 1 Chapter 2
“WHATT?” Jun shouted at the handset, prompting the caller to pull his cell phone away from his ear.
“She got lost?” …..She had a flat tyre?” Jun simultaneously repeated what the caller told him.
“Wooh..Wooh, tone down Jun-kun. I’ll be deaf before I get married because of you.” Toma spoke to the phone infront of him. He made sure Jun is now calm before putting back the phone to his ear.
“I just can’t believe her." Jun's voice is now softer but he still sounded upset. " She is as clumsy as always, careless as usual, she doesn't even think she's making people worry."
He suddenly heard a snickering sound in the background, tempting his voice to raise again before Toma could reply. "INOUE MAO, just you wait and see."
“I’m taking her now, won’t be long.” Toma told Jun before hanging up the phone.
“Such a liability.” He shakes his head and clicks his phone off before pocketing it. He heaved a big sigh of relief. Jun’s mother smiled as she passed him on her way to the kitchen.
Ten mins after, a red Toyota SUV pulled in the drive away. Jun rushes out to greet (and to confront) the new arrivals.
“Yo!” Toma greeted his friend and waves as he came out from the driver’s side. Jun waves back at him as he walks towards the car, particularly to the passenger’s side. Toma’s passenger also opened the door on her side and came out waiting for Jun who is walking towards her.
“Why you didn’t ring me?” It was the first thing he says as soon as he stops in front of her without even greeting her.
“My phone ran out of battery.” She replied in a hardly audible way as she bows her head. She knows it will be never ending scolding from him now. So better be quiet and listen to his lecture.
“My mother was worried about you.” Well, his mother was indeed worried.
“He’s more worried though, he couldn’t stop pacing back and forth, trying multiple times to reach you on the phone.” Jun’s cheeks blushed as his mum came out to greet the guests at the same time revealing his actions a while ago. He didn’t need his mum to say unnecessary things. He stared at her to hint her to stop. Her mum could only smile more.
“Hello Matsumoto-san, Long time no see” Toma bowed in respect.
“Hello Toma-kun.” Jun’s Mum bowed back . She then turn to greet Mao.“Hello Mao-chan. Long time no see.”
Mao bowed in apology for her late arrival. “I’m really sorry Auntie, I got lost and---
“I’m just happy that you are alright.” Jun’s mum took Mao and hugs her. “Let’s just go inside and talk more about your experience as we have the meal, ne?”
Mao nods and smiled as Jun’s mum led her inside, leaving Jun to follow, not taking his eyes off her.
“Ano, I’ll just keep going then.” Jun’s stance was interrupted upon hearing Toma’s voice. He completely forgot that Toma was there.
“Gomen Toma-kun. Sorry for interrupting your schedule today. Arigatou for bringing Mao-chan here.” Jun pats Toma’s shoulder.
“No problem. I was not that far.” Toma pats Jun’s back in return. “See you.” He gives him a smile before he turns to go. Jun also smiled as he turns to go inside the house.
“Toma-kun,….” Mao runs passed Jun to catch up with Toma who is going back in the car. “Toma-kun, have lunch with us. I already asked Auntie and she said you should stay.” Mao clings to his arm, shaking them lightly to convince Toma to stay.
Toma looks at Mao then turns his gaze to Jun who was just standing not far off, looking pissed.
“Matsujun-kun doesn’t seem to be okay with me, staying.” He points to Mao with a smirk. Mao turns to Jun, pouting her way to get Jun to approve. Toma finds her pout cute. She’s always cute. In fact many of the friends he knows have a crush on her. Her excellent acting and gentle, fun character offcam is hard to go unnoticed . Many were asking about her relationship with Jun but nobody dared to ask them straight. They assume they are now in serious relationship since they are very comfortable with each other and visiting each other’s family.
“Don’t you have plans for today, Toma-kun?” Jun raised his brow at Toma, signalling him to refuse Mao’s offer.
“He said he’s free for rest of the day, so might as well, hang out with us, ne? Besides, he’s my hero.” Mao was quick to answer.
Jun didn’t have much a choice but to ask Toma to stay. So much for the plans he made for this day. She ultimately ruined it.
Everyone was silent as the dig into the food Jun’s mum has prepared. Mum and Jun sit at the opposite side while Mao and Toma sit next to each other. Jun keeps glancing at her every second as Mao is silently enjoying the food, not bothering to mind the other people around her. He is still little upset that things didn’t go according to his plan. Toma was a bit uncomfortable being there, as he didn’t feel welcomed. True, Jun is one of his closest friend. But he didn’t seem happy to see him there. In fact, this is the first time he even came to Jun’s mum’s house. If it wasn’t for Mao-chan, he will probably have no chance of coming here and tasting Mum’s cooking. Mao-chan is sure lucky to come here already not once but many times before. That’s an opportunity a girlfriend could only have. He glanced at Jun who is staring at Mao, deeply indulged with the food. Mum is smiling as she keeps an eye at the other 3 occupants.
“Auntie, honto arigatou. The food is really delicious.” Mao was first to break silence with a big grin.
“ Now, we’re eating a cold food, thanks to someone.” Jun, pretending be nonchalant. Mao just poke her tongue, turning to Toma and smiled.
“Ne, Honto Arigatou Toma-kun, If you were not there, I don’t know what I would do.” Toma has some food in his mouth so he shook his head, meaning that it’s nothing.
“How did you find Mao-chan, Toma-kun.” Mum started asking. Although this is the first time Toma came to her house, he has known him because she met him few time before.
Toma swallowed his food before answering the question. “I met up with a friend this morning and I drove him home. On the way back, I saw Mao walking so I stopped.”
“Yes, I got lost and then I run into something sharp and before I knew it, the tyre was flat.” Mao continued. “ Then I found out my phone ran out of battery so I had to walk for some mile to get help. Good thing Toma-kun passed.”
“I couldn’t believe at first that it was Mao-chan. I had to take second look. The way she walked was funny” Toma laughs. Mao joins in and so did Jun’s mum. Toma noticed that Jun was just staring. He stopped and coughs.
“You never changed, always making people worry.” Jun is looking serious at Mao. Mao stood up from her seat and walks around behind Jun. She round her arms around his neck and placed her chin on his shoulder.
“Ma-chan, you were really worried about me, ne?” and she placed a small peck on his cheek. “Sorry Oniichan.”
Jun was quick to protest. “Oy, I’m not your Oniichan”. He tries to grab her arm but she was quicker to get away from him, laughing. It resulted to a short chase until Jun managed to capture her.
“How many times I told you, don’t call me Oniichan.”Jun held her firmly while she continues laughing. She loves teasing him and one way is to call him Oniichan. He really hates when he’s called that. He said it will make him look older. That’s why she keeps using it just to tick him off.
“Since you are this close and our families are already acquainted, when are planning to get married.” Jun and Mao stop with what they were doing and stared at Jun’s mum. Toma, who was watching amused with the 2, perked his ear when marriage was mentioned.
As a Johnny, he is well aware of the dating and marriage rules. And with Jun’s reputation as an idol and Mao’s reputation as a-list actress, this single word could make a big difference with their careers. He shifts his gaze at Jun, waiting for his response.
Jun was a little shock with his mother’s words. That thing really didn’t occur in his mind. Not in this current situation.
“Ehh…” Mao was first to speak. He round her arm around Jun’s arm as she speaks. “Ano, Auntie, we are not dating…Jun-kun is my bestfriend.”
Toma look on as the face of Jun’s mother fell into disappointment. This is not what she expected.
