I had such fun with that! Thank you so much to all of those who took my poll/quiz/whatchamacallit. I was really impressed with how many did it. ♥
Before reading further, if you haven't taken it, please
go here to do so.
The "findings" to me are rather interesting. It does look to be like a truly Southern phrase, but there are a few of you who are... well, anomalies if you don't mind the description. It's meant with love, believe me. For example, one of you is a far north person and neither of your parents were southern, yet you knew. Some of you who didn't know, had a southern someone tell you. There's a couple that have lived up north, but have moved south and do know. I'm not sure if this means that you knew before or you know now because you live in the south at this time. A couple of you were really good at guessing too. Ironically, all my foreign friends knew it and I couldn't believe that! It has just been SO interesting! Some of you are southern but still don't know it. I don't know what to make of that, except that maybe some of us are just more countryfied than others. ;)
If you haven't figured it out yet (some of you might have googled it) it means that the sun is shining while it's raining. The sun represents Satan and the rain are his wife's tears. It's a silly thing really, but there it is.
You see this whole thing came up eons ago when I was talking to my best friend. I was on my cell phone and noticed that the sun was shining while it was raining. I then used the expression and the person on the other end had no idea, at all, what I meant. Being the southern girl that I am, I actually began laughing in total surprise, stupidly thinking it was a joke. I found it shocking that someone had never heard it before. When I finally realized that it was no joke, I then wondered if it was because they were pretty much raised in Washington state.
Last weekend Tracy (
beautflnitemare) and I went out, and knowing that she's not southern AT ALL... ;).... I asked her and if you could have seen the look on her face! I got the distinct feeling that she felt like she was looking at one helluva redneck. :P She didn't know either.
Dan is from Texas. I asked him if he had ever heard the phrase and he looked at me like I was completely UNintelligent. "Well... duh!" :)
Finally I decided that I'd put the question to those who I know live, and have lived, in all kinds of places. What fun!
Again, thank you to all of you! I've enjoyed it so much.
Let's see.... I started work today. Oh yay. You see, I know the reputation of this center. It has a waiting list of about seven years for anyone to get in there. It's THAT perfect of a place. I also know that the nurses are very happy there and they have a longevity like I've never seen. The average turnover for a nurse is 2.2 years, so anyone who has been there for six and seven years is a very happy person. That said, I knew that there must not be staffing issues (being short nurses) and such.
What didn't occur to me is that the staffing would be so good, that it would be sooooo sllllloooowwwwww. I mean goodness! The clock ticked so slowly that today's 8 hours felt like 24! I hate not having anything to do, I want to be busy. The good part is that you have extra time for your patients, and plenty of it I might add. That's definitely a plus, but if I'm going to eventually be working nights I can't expect to be socializing with them. I really will need something to do to keep me occupied. Naturally I casually looked about for a computer (shhh, it's our secret), but there isn't one. *sobs*
I guess I'll just have to read. Oh horrors! I've complained way too often about how I don't have much time to read, but I guess that now I will. I'll also really have to clean up my amazon wish list.
All in all I think I'll enjoy it, as long as the boredom doesn't kill me. It's definitely challenging, as far as the type of patients I'll be working with. The staff there are so well trained! There is true caring in that place and not laziness like I've seen at so many others. It's a real treat to see this kind of thing.
Well tonight is Lost everyone! If you've missed any episodes, be sure to watch it tonight. I believe that it's another one of those recap episodes to catch you up. If you've never watched Lost, I invite you to watch it tonight too. However be warned, because it's very addicting. It's so addicting that a couple of nights my cable was out and I packed up the kids and went all the way over to Mother's to watch it! Sad, huh? ;)
Love to all! ♥
