I love airtight containers. They're great for organization and extending food shelf life. I don't just recommend using them for dry goods like bread and cereal, but also for leftover food to keep in the refrigerator.
It's difficult breaking the usual household practice of using disposable plastic food bags and plastic resealable bags (e.g. Ziploc bags) when keeping food, and I'm not 100% guilt-free of it either, but I hope this household eventually breaks free of it and other households start appreciating reusable containers.
Oh, and don't forget to clip and keep part of the food packaging that has the expiry/best before date if you transfer food into airtight containers. ;p Also, it's not really recommended that you use plastic containers when freezing food because it becomes brittle and easy to crack when frozen. But you still can, just be easy on the container and when taking the lid off. Maybe run some lukewarm water on it first so it defrosts and starts being more flexible again. :)
