People in Seattle and surrounding areas are wimps...
Seriously... there may have even been a gov't warning about not traveling today, I'm told... *shakes head*
So, we got some snow last night, a nice little bit - but it was mild enough that it all turned to slush on the roads. Traffic was insane last night in the area with 40k+ people trying to leave Microsoft at the same time with yucky roads... Rush hour in our neck of the woods usually occurs between 4pm and 6pm... Last night, traffic was at a standstill well after 8pm. And on the weirdest roads too - people taking 'shortcuts' on lesser traveled roads, only to find the condition on those roads worse than the main ones, thus causing more accidents and whatnot... it was ridiculous.
Anyhoo - coldsnap last night turned that slush into ice. Being Canadian, that's not anything too out of the ordinary - but around here - hell has now frozen over. Literally. No one can drive around here... Tires are spinning like crazy (that's the most frequent sound from our windows today) But it's not that bad!
No one's gone to work... Schools are shut down.. People at Microsoft have been told not to come to work today. Colin's at work though (we live two blocks form his office) and he said he's seen maybe two other people in his whole building. Someone from SouthAmerica who's singing in the hallways... and a Canadian. ;)
All of the receptionists have stayed home. The MS shuttle service isn't running at all today.. The main campus buildings are all locked up.
Colin's one class has been cancelled this afternoon.. and his thursday interview has already been pushed to friday now.
The sun is out... snow is melting off things... It's not that bad..
But hey... at least the army wasn't called in. *wink*
