A book and a baby!

So a free short story of mine became available for download in a lovely, shiny multitude of formats from Less Than Three Press last week and I didn't say a single word... but I had a good excuse, I swear! If you have any interest in reading it, it's here. This is the Sandy Relief Auction story I wrote for Evie Kiels, who requested a violin, some use of "orchid", a space colony, and a particular quote. It was a great set of prompts, though it took me a rather ridiculously long time to write, but it's fun and sweet. Hopefully I didn't mess up my hypothetical space programming too badly. ;-)

Evan loves his work on International Space Colony 2, but he misses the colors of his life on Earth. Drawing the flowers he remembers from his mother's greenhouse provides a pale substitute for authentic living color, but it's the best he can find.

Sean spends his days lost in his software while listening to the same songs on the same radio stations day after day. He would give almost anything to hear the mistakes of a live performance, but a space colony is hardly an ideal place to find an amateur musician.

A chance meeting shows Evan a glimpse of real color and Sean a taste of real music, but neither expects to see the other again. Then Evan's greatest accomplishment fails, endangering the entire colony, and Sean becomes his list chance at fixing it.

But! But! But! More exciting! My excuse for not mentioning it? I was (finally, a week and a half overdue) having my baby. *\o/* My water broke around 1:30 Monday afternoon (as I was getting dressed to go see the midwife, actually), and he was born Tuesday morning at 6:14 am, 8 lb 15 oz and 21.5 in long. My eyes look like they belong in a horror paranormal flick since I broke most of the blood vessels in them while pushing the kid out, but he doesn't seem to mind that his mom has demon werewolf eyes. He is, of course, the cutest little baby in the whole world. But bias aside, I do still definitely feel like I got a good one. He even sleeps most of the night. I loves him muchly. :)
