They told us that the hardest semester of the 2-year Visual Language program would be this one. The first semester we learned the basics, such as the fundamentals of 2D animation and how to model in Maya. This semester I guess is supposed to be like... an application of those skills? Bottom line is, it doesn't seem like we are working that much harder. The only "demanding" class is our Modeling class. For example, we had only one week to model a character of our own design, with barely any prior experience. One of the most time-consuming classes last semester was Environments, and we've already had two weekends off this semester because our Environments professor didn't load us down with paper bridges or stick towers.
I and four other classmates signed up for night classes at Project Firefly, the local animation studio that made Curious George. We're being taught how to paint backgrounds in Photoshop. The first class was a lot of fun, just being in their studio and seeing all the autographs everywhere.. not to mention the carpooling! :D
I started watching 24 this season. We're watching an episode now. It really seems to me like the show can be summarized thusly:
Keifer Sutherland: *screams into cell phone*
I definitely prefer Lost and Heroes to this. Also, I've been following American Idol for the first time. I have no idea why that show is so mesmerizing. Is it just Simon?
I haven't been writing, which bothers me greatly. The fantasy that Trent and I are co-authoring is still in preproduction, and I'm not in any Composition courses. I'd like to rework The Carronade now that I have an iron grip on the Hero's Journey (thanks to my classes), but I still don't have an ending worked out. X(
It seems like I haven't been in contact with my high schools buds at all recently. They never post to LJ anymore, and I don't get on AIM enough. Did everyone move to Blogspot?? Myspace? What?
My classmates have really gotten me excited about moving to LA after we get our undergraduate degree. The current plan is to get one big apartment and have crazy sitcom-ish times in it. I think I'm the only one planning on grad school (I'd like to go to CalArts for directing). So while they are looking for jobs I will be avoiding the real world. Hurrah.
I am almost done texturing my butterfly model. I will try to remember to post pics when he's finished.
Trent and I made cookies-and-cream cupcakes tonight. I'm bringing the extras to school tommorrow! Exciting, it is.
For Lent this year I'm going to try to run twice a week, because I am a blob.
I hate drawing 90-year-old men!!!!!
