The death of my computer is seeming to be a yearly event. Around this time last year, my motherboard died a painful death, and this time it was the power supply, which decided to take the motherboard along for the ride. The time before that it was the hard-drive, and the first time it happened, it was the cmos battery.
Backup Backup Backup
*of course I didn't* (well not all of it)
This time around, I had managed to save a lot of my stuff onto disk, but when the tech guy installed the new bits, he decided that I really didn't need all my old programs, and nuked the lot. My antivirus, firewall, antispyware, settings etc, was all back with a few downloads and an hour or two of finetuning, but what really stung was that he killed my digital art programs, and all my downloaded and created goodies. Over 10gig of stuff, and much of it wasn't on the saved disks. I could have ripped him a new cavity, until he finally told me (after much insane ranting) that he had a full backup at his shop.
..sigh of relief and almost tears of joy..
..Unplug the box and drag it up to the shop on a rainy Saturday morning..
So all my stuff sits here in a back folder, awaiting the time to reinstall it.. but first I have to figure out what is what, and do some springcleaning. Time to start saving for a new computer, which won't keel over and die in 12 months, or at least that flash drive that I've been promising myself since the first crash. It's almost as predictable as a birthday or anniversary.
*marks calendar for this time next year*
