OK, so right outside of the post there is this little dive called Galloping Gertie's. We've probably driven by this place 100 times already and we kept telling ourselves we were going to stop in one day and see what it was like. Now we thought the restaurant was themed after the famous bridge here is PacNW but we were sooooo wrong. The restaurant is named after the lady who started it and her love for soldiers and horses! Let me tell you... this place is one of those gems that you have to experience for yourself!
Jim, DJ, and I went there for breakfast yesterday and we fell head over heals in love. It's a mom and pop joint with lots of old dive charm. Connected to the diner is a bar that hosts darts, pool, some small gambling, and a DJ booth..... And like a lot of places up here they also host karaoke! :-)
Jim ordered "The Big Foot" all because the waitress bet that he couldn't finish it... Men. His meal consisted of a Chicken Fried Steak and gravy that was probably 12" x 8" x 1 1/2", 3 eggs, toast, and a half a plate of hashbrowns. This meal had to come on two separate plates it was so much food! I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Omelet... it was made from three eggs, had freshly chopped onions and green peppers, REAL skirt steak, and provolone cheese... then it came with half a plate of hashbrowns, and some toast. Gods I barely ate 1/3 of it, it was sooooo huge! And of coarse DJ had to be different.... he got a kid's burger... this burger was as big as a "Big Mac" from McD's, the burger meat itself was 3 times as thick! And then the seasoned fries.... yummmmmmm!!!!!
Personally I think the slice of Marion Berry pie was the best! And in keeping with everything else we ordered, this slice was not for sissies! *grins*
We've definitely found a new home in Gertie's!
