[Layton's handwriting scrawls across the page in that quick, slightly messy way of one that's used to jotting down notes often.] Good afternoon everyone. My name is Professor Layton to any new arrivals I have yet to speak with.

I wanted to inform everyone that I am planning on offering extracurricular, non-magical fencing lessons and demonstrations ( Read more... )

Fencing, professor? Sounds interesting. Holmes was a fencer, you know.

Ah, but I don't think I will be able to participate in this.

Yes, I thought it might be a good idea to try. [Layton nods, smiling slightly.] Indeed, he was. And an excellent one too, if my memory serves me correctly.

That's alright. Participation isn't obligatory at all.

He was. Watson mentioned it in 'A Study in Scarlet'.

If you wouldn't mind I might come and watch a session. [He was fairly certain that he was too short right now to actually learn.]

Yes, I recall that particular mystery. It was one of my apprentice's favorites.

I don't mind at all. You are more than welcome to observe, Mr. Edogawa. And should you change your mind, you're welcome to participate as well.

[ It takes him a while before he decides to respond. ]

Should you find no other man to aid you, I have some degree of skill with a sword.

[ And, while he wouldn't quite admit it, he had some need for practise. While he considered himself no great warrior, it would be ill-advised to neglect his duties. ]

Thank you, Professor Stannis. For now, you seem to be only one to offer, but I'll let you know if there is anyone else that can also help.

Do you mind if I ask what sort of sword techniques you specialize in?

I was trained in the style of the Knights of the Stormlands of Westeros.

[ he frowns. ]

Though, given that is likely to mean little to you, it is simpler to say that I am equally effiant with both a broadsword and a longsword.

[ He had been casually reading up on important magical history, but knew little about the rest. Perhaps at a later date, he would ask Layton more about the history of this world. ]

[Even if Layton isn't familiar with the name, he knows the concept of knights quite well. So, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume that Stannis has had extensive training.] I see. I'm more familiar with rapier style combat, myself.

This is quite the fortunate development. It's good to have various styles of sword-fighting that we can demonstrate, so students can learn a technique that will suit them best.

Fencing? I've never fought with swords before, so this should be an interesting experience.

I hope it is. Fencing might not be as intriguing as some magics, but it is a handy skill to know.

Shall I expect you to attend, Miss?

The only weapons I'm familiar with are guns and knives, but you're right on swords coming in handy.

Yeah, sure! And I'm Kallen Kouzuki, sir.

Oh, I see. [Layton pauses, surprised at hearing what seems to be someone so young using such dangerous weapons. He almost asks why, but decides that might be too intrusive.] It sounds as if you have extensive weapon experience.

Miss Kouzuki, then. I look forward to your attendance this Sunday.

[Hungary's handwriting is feminine and well-practiced, albeit relatively large and a tiny bit hurried. It's clear from that last detail that she's pretty excited about this]

You can count me in, professor! Fencing is far more my style than this magic stuff, interesting as it is. I could probably help with teaching if you needed me to; I've been extensively trained in swordsmanship.

Wonderful, Miss Hungary. I'm glad to hear there is some people here familiar with the sport.

Thank you for the offer, dear. Right now, I have Professor Stannis' aid. But, should I need more aid with the lessons, I will ask for your help as well. I'm not sure yet of just how many will be attending and what the range of skill will be among them, so it may be likely that I'll need an extra helping hand or two.

I look forward to your attendance, then, Miss Hungary. It'll be quite the active lesson with all these people attending.

Fencing, eh? That's more Jin's style, but I guess it couldn't hurt for me to come watch. More of a gunslinger, myself.

[ And damn proud of it. ]

I hope you find the demonstration interesting, even if it is not your type of fighting style.

Also, do you mind if I have your name? I'd like to keep track of who will be observing and who will be participating.

No doubt about that! I'll definitely find it interesting.

[BAH, enough with the damn quill. He switches to video impatiently and then flashes a grin.]

Name's Jr.!

[Layton also decides to make the transition to video, and smiles back at Jr. He gives a tip of the top-hat in greeting.]

I'm glad to hear that. And it's a pleasure to meet you too, Jr., since I don't believe we've spoken before.
