Re: Extending this system kearsley April 18 2009, 14:53:38 UTC
(I had to split things up a bit because there's a length limit on comments.)

My general goals with the amendments that I listed were to reward character skill at the individual level while still making it possible for a hypothetical NPC army to move at a forced march. Thus, a small group of leveled warriors, all with endurance as a chosen skill, can travel farther without rest than your average party or a drafted army. Further, the class that wins for mobility is the ranger, but they're hindered by companions who can't pass both nature and endurance checks, meaning that they're offered a chance to play a role as advance scouts and foragers as needed.

I have thoughts on food/water requirements, but mostly left those off, as they only come into play when traveling in areas where resources are limited or in requiring players to think about supply lines and resource consumption for an army that they're leading.

I considered making the required rest a factor of the time traveled, but thought better of it, in that check + condition, repeated, is a simple system, despite the verbiage that I applied to it.
