"That nurse is in love with you, Andy," Krista smiled in the direction of the young woman who had just delivered a gallon of orange juice and packet of graham crackers. Andy wouldn't be able to stomach the grahams but it was a good effort on the nurse's part

She sighed relieved when she saw him sleeping. "Thank god" Lauren muttered under her breath then tried to smile at Andy's mother. "You're a miracle worker. Did he eat? H... he won't eat."

She smiled and continued to stroke his hair. Andy kept right on snoring. "I gave him a sleeping potion to help with the nightmares. He'll be out for a few hours at least. He drank some orange juice, from that nurse who's in love with him. I heard about the Cheerios. Good move. He should be taking better care of you instead of you worrying about him."

She let the orderly put her back in the bed staring at her potion induced husband and frowned. "I think I broke your son, Krista. I'm sorry."

"I broke him twice last week. He heals quickly," she joked lamely. "I mean it, don't worry about him. He'll fine when you're fine."

Andy snored and then farted as if in response.

She laughed a bit but she really wanted to cry. The guilt was incredible.

Taking a deep breath she changed gears. "When did you get in?"

"I can see that in your eyes. Guilt. Andy would hate that. He loves you so much that this hard for him deal with. He's going to be fine. You're going to be fine." She knew Lauren probably didn't believe her, but she meant every word she said.

"This morning. I had breakfast with my brother before visitor hours started." Krista reached for her daughter in law's fractured fingers. "It sucks doesn't it? All the horrified looks and all the pity. You just want people to shut up don't you?"

"I know. I just hate that he has to go through this. I'm afraid to stop, you know? Like if I even falter even a little at this point, he won't survive it. I almost wish he hadn't found me than to have found me like this. I should have never pursued that case. If I hadn't been so stubborn maybe this wouldn't have happened."

The little touch was too much and her good eye welled. "God, what did I do?"

Krista shushed her. "His heart always gets the better of him. Andrew has always been like that and we both know he always be. It's usually a gift but sometimes it drags him down. All that's happening right now is that Andy is drowning in his heart. You'll lean on each and both recover but don't you do this to yourself. Nothing is your fault. Not at all. Andy knows that. He also knows that it's not his fault. His heart just has to catch up with his brain."

Krista kissed her daughter in law's forehead gingerly. "Nothing. Lauren Love. You did nothing to deserve what happened. You did nothing wrong."

Lauren grew quiet not sure if she was buying that she was blameless. There were things that she could see so clearly now that she could have done before and prevented this. It was more than just going to the store. She could have dropped the case when everyone including Murphy told her to. She could have investigated the ghosts more. She could have investigated Mab more. She could have been more aware of her surroundings so he couldn't sneak up on her. She could have tried to possess him as soon as she could. Even further than that she could have been practicing her projections more so that she had a far enough range to reach someone. If she were able to go even a mile or two that could have been the difference.

She closed her eye when her mother-in-law kissed her head. Andy looked so comfortable in his mom's embrace but Lauren had never known her mother so it was all a little foreign and even slightly uncomfortable. Though she attempted to relax anyway.

Krista knew her words might not carry much weight right now but she hoped hearing them would help a little at least. She hated that her daughter in law was going through this. She knew that Lauren beating herself up was inevitable so she didn't push the issue.

"Hey, you know I love you like you're my daughter but if you want me to back off I understand. If you need to talk about anything I'm an open ear. You know, I was raped and then Andy was born. Something good can possibly come out of this too."

"No, Krista, you're awesome. It's just... my dad was never really big into the emotional stuff. If something was bothering me, he'd sit me down. We'd work out a game plan. By the end of it I was usually feeling better and if not he'd ask me if tears or stress were going to strengthen my resolve or weaken it. I'd have to say weaken and we'd grab a pickle then go get dirty to take my mind off things." Lauren explained fondly. She could have really used her dad right then.

Krista smiled at her. "I get it. I was always closer to my dad too. And my brother. Do you wanna try making a game plan? I'm not going to tell you not to cry though. Your resolve is amazing right now, tears are part of it."

She glanced at her husband. "Actually, I have one. You know, I've been taking care of myself for a long time but this is the first time in a long time that I've had someone else I needed to think about and he was such a wild card. I'm just lost when it comes to him."

"Can I ask what that plan is?" She stroked Andy's forehead, smiling at him and then at her daughter in law. "'You've gotten me interested now. You're lost when it comes to Andy? That's a surprise to me."

"Well, recovery first and for front. The sooner I can get out of here the better. I know there will be physical therapy too but I already called SBPD, gave them an update. They heard what happened but they hadn't heard my up to the minute. I still have to do the paperwork when I get home but I put in my notice. I talked to the man we were going to buy the house from and he said we could rent first so if we get there and hate it we'll just move. Pepper said I could take my time getting better. The job is on lock. So that takes the pressure of a down payment and we can survive on everything we've saved up until now. I'm asking Adam to go to the house and take pictures of my car. I can put an ad out from here and I'll just field inquiries on my cell. I figure if everything goes well with my last surgery then I'll be out of here in a week at the latest. Pepper's going to fly us home so I don't have to worry about it being uncomfortable. We can start packing and we'll be in London by June like we planned." She stated everything like facts

Andy murmured something in his sleep that sounded like "Oh Flea" and kept on snoring. He was pretty out of it.

"Wow. You're really are on top of it. Andy said you guys had played as many video games and watched as many videos as you could stand practically. He's trying to help with that stuff too, I know he is, even if it doesn't seem like it." She smiled, feeling proud of her daughter in law. "But you're lost when it comes to Andy?"
