Went into the law firm that was acting as the title company for the closing. Met some of the sellers of the estate (the 5 girls were selling the home after their mother passed away last year). Met with the lawyer and signed the closing papers (LOTS of signing and LOTS of redundancy). The sellers met with the lawyer and did the same and then we all met together and chit-chatted for awhile. Marion and her husband are retired and live next door and her sister Kathleen and her husband live in N. 'Kato. Very nice people who are very happy that a younger couple bought the home.
Made some very excited phone calls and then just let the reality of it all sink in. It still hasn't. Delivered paper-work to tax preparers to get our refund amended for the first-time home buyers credit. Were bad and treated ourselves to the new restaurant in town with gyros (they have some great potential - it'll be interesting to see them a year from now.)
Went to the new home and began tearing up carpet. Mike came over and graciously helped out. Marque and Isa came over and we discussed plan for the weekend. Sounds like we'll have a small crew over and so we'll be able to have multiple projects going on at once. Went to Menards to get a long-handled scraper to take up the linoleum in the dining room. Carpet is completely gone, staples and tack boards removed. Linoleum in the dining room needs to be brought up, the glue scraped and then we'll sand strip the floors before staining and finishing. Hoping to get that done by the end of the weekend.
End of day one as a home owner.
