I'm finding it difficult to believe I'm leaving New Zealand in one week from monday. I can barely remember the flight here, it was so long ago, so it feels like I've been here forever. And yet I have to leave... *sob* Still, it's not all bad, as I *am* leaving to go to South America.
Now, South America... that's a topic that's causing me problems at the moment. As you know, there was a rather large earthquake in Chile about 5 weeks ago, which the country is slowly recovering from. And, of course, my first stop is supposed to be Santiago, Chile's capital. I've just found out today that the hostel I've booked into for my first two nights in Chile is still closed at the moment, but aside from that it's hard to say what the situation is there. So do I go there and hope for the best, or do I try and change my flights so that instead of being in Santiago for 10 nights I'm only there for two or three? I have to go there as my flight ticket is dependent on flying in to Santiago, but I could change my connecting flight to Buenos Aires so that I get there earlier than planned. I need to contact the British Embassy in Chile to get a better assessment of what the situation is like safety wise, and then contact my insurers to see if I'd be covered should I change my flights... ugh. It's all very complicated.
Still, trying not to stress out too much. It'smy last day in Wellington tomorrow, and I plan to enjoy my day by going to Te Papa for the millionth time and then to Oriental Bay if the weather is nice. I might even get the bus to Miramar, as John Howe is going to be doing a signing at the Weta Cave. Choices, choices. ;)
On Monday I'm getting the bus to Auckland in what will be a joyous day of travel, leaving Wellington at 6:55am getting to Auckland at around 5pm. Ick. Still, it will be my last big journey in NZ so I will try to make the most of the scenery and not sleep the whole way. Well. Maybe I'll sleep as far as Taupo... At least when I get up to Auckland I'm booked into what I think is one of the nicest hostels in NZ - might as well enjoy a little luxury before I go.
Happy Easter everybody!
