Halloween Doings

I hope everyone had a good Halloween.  Ours went very well, I didn't see a whole lot of children, but I don't think our neighborhood does much of that.  Most of what we did revolved around work and our friends from there.  We got up really early that morning and got our "gear" on, and headed in.  The district manager was there to take pictures of us, and what was amazing was that our store was the only one that participated, so we knew someone in our store was going to get the prize.  I should mention the "grand prize" was a $50 gift certificate, so it was a pretty decent offering for our company.  When Lora left, we had two more members of management stop by later in the day, because apparently she told everyone to come by and check out our "team spirit".  It was kind of neat, because in my position as the UTC, I'm required to motivate people to participate in contests like this.  It was required that everyone in the store scheduled that day participate in dressing up to be eligible for the contest.  This was especially a big deal for us.  We have a lady that works third shift, Miss LJ, who has worked for the store since it opened in 1978, and she dresses up every year for Halloween.  This year she found out about the contest, and she was determined to win.  Well, Miss LJ is kind of a store hero, of course, besides being there since the place opened, she also is kind of a "mama" figure to all the employees, and many of the customers.  We have a lot of regulars, and the young adult regulars all have been coming in since they were little, and they all adore her.  So, I knew how important it was to have everyone participate, if just for her sake alone.  One girl wanted to be ... we'll put this, rebellious. She said she wasn't going to dress up.  Now, Miss LJ has known this girl for probably ten years, she's been coming to the Cary store since she was about 10, and now she works for us.  I basically told her not to ruin this for the rest of us, especially LJ.  Well, that did the trick, and she showed up dressed as a McDonald's employee.
It's amazing the things you have to say sometimes.  I would have thought she would already know that, everyone had been trying to figure out for two weeks what LJ was going to dress as.
Anyway, since I've given all this buildup to her costume, I'm going to post a photo of it.

She went goth.  This is so crazy for her because she's very conservative and old fashioned.  NO one recognized her!  It was fantastic.
Naturally she won.  And I was so thrilled for her, because she worked so hard on this.  Now, what was funny, was that little wig thing she was wearing had skulls in it!  Adorable.
Marian went as Magda the Gypsy.  She was in total character too, she had the accent down, she did such a great job.  Here's a picture of her:

So anyway, LJ won our contest, and Marian came in second.  We all met up at the store around 9PM to see everyone's costumes and maybe try to go do something fun, like karaoke, bowling, or pool. We ended up going to a pool hall.
Boy did we get some looks!
All in all, it was an exhausting but fun day.

halloween, ramblings, work
