I'm in love with the idea of writing and editing. Aside from being underqualified on paper, the second-biggest reason I'm doubtful of making a career out of it is that it doesn't take much for writing and editing to drive me crazy. I love this "blog-style" crap, and who doesn't love talking about themselves? But who loves reading about my minutae? That whole Julie & Julia idea isn't realistic. (I tried reading Julie's actual blog but got sick of it once it got sloppy and unfocused.) I always felt safer editing, but this morning while editing my husband's pet project, I seemed to know too many ways to rearrange the sentence and punctuation. Why my wording preference over his? Should that comma really be/not be there? Does anyone use semi-colons anymore? It makes me sad and frustrated that what I think of myself as so good at might be another dead end, career-wise.
But I really should finish editing his paper!
